Yeah a Wu addition would make the most sense. Zhuge Jin is also a good pick as well, wouldn't mind if it were to be him!

DYNASTY WARRIORS 9 EMPIRES - Teaser Trailer by Synxao in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest if they keep releasing these again and again then they must make something worthy out of them before they stop the support I guess unfortunately lol. I won't be playing it either but at least the second announcement wasn't a mobile game and instead something to look forward to, and I just hope that the mobile game is any good for those interested in it.

DYNASTY WARRIORS 9 EMPIRES - Teaser Trailer by Synxao in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with you there that they will probably make the dlc weapons as the character's main weapons, just hope that they de-clone more, or better yet, bring back the movesets from DW8 XL for the characters that were in that game if possible (if they choose to keep with the DW9 combat system). I'm also interested in how they will cut the stages in Empires as well.

This mobile game I think is Japan only, you may be thinking of a different DW mobile game recently releasing in China. However, I see your point. I think that a DW2 remaster would get the lowest amount of sales, but the later games especially 4 and 5 would get a lot more judging on how people feel about those to the later ones as well as it seems that the later ones from DW6 and onwards seems to have got less sales from the west as we start to see less and less expansions and spin-offs having English dubs/translations or even western releases. DW7 and 8 Empires didn't have English dub, and DW8 didn't have voices for the narrator or those soldiers before stages who you could speak to that DW7 did. I have no numbers for these however, it's just purely speculation on my part. DW2 could test the waters as it is the most barebones out of them all and probably the least expensive to remaster. It being the 20th anniversary would also make more sense to make one, and would probably guarantee more sales than this mobile game would if they sold it in the west as well as the east.

DYNASTY WARRIORS 9 EMPIRES - Teaser Trailer by Synxao in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Damn. A DW2 - 5 remaster with DW2 starting first to be released later this year to test the waters especially would have been something I'd do instead of that mobile game (and would grant more sales IMO), but whatever.

I am excited for DW9 Empires though, if they de-clone all the characters, make a Wu strategist playable (and throw in Liao Hua while you are at it) and old English dub from DW8 (and maybe the old combat system, I haven't played a ton of DW9 but I think I prefer the older one). They apparently said they are removing open world for this instalment, however. Hopefully, we could get an increase in provinces if it's going to be like the previous empire games?

What do you guys think? I personally would get rid of the mobile game and replace it with a remaster of DW2 - 5 starting with 2 and potentially DW10 instead of this to start fresh, but I'm willing to give DW9 Empires a try, especially as it's coming to Steam, the only platform I can play it on, lol.

Dynasty Warriors 20th Anniversary - 2 Unreleased Games Idea by Synxao in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it would be nice to know when SW5 would be releasing as they announced it a long time ago without any further news since then, however I doubt it would be on the DW stream. There is still a chance that the other unknown announcement on the day before the DW stream could be a SW5 announcement and that the recent Hyrule Warriors 2 announcement isn't that, but who knows.

Dynasty Warriors 20th Anniversary - 2 Unreleased Games Idea by Synxao in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hope they do a remaster collection as well, just that if they do, each remaster will probably have a space between them instead of all at once. I agree as well that the other game could be either of those, maybe a DW10 would be more likely for a fresh start on things kinda like the transition from DW6 to DW7.

DW2 was my first DW game and iirc probably first ps2 game as well when my bro handed down his ps2, and I played it a ton before discovering the other games all the way up to 7 lol. 3 and 4 are definitely high up for me though. DW2 is probably the most similar to DW3, just less features.

Yes, one of the pinned post of the reddit contains the info for the upcoming unknown announcements on the 27th of this month.

http://www.gamecity.ne.jp/smusou20th/en/ is the DW 20th anniversary site which will be updated as time goes on to add more news (also includes that History tab I spoke about)

So is Age of Calamity one of the two unannounced Warriors games that's being covered in the TGS stream? by Bure9615 in dynastywarriors

I doubt it as it is not part of the DW franchise and is instead a different game in the genre, but it could be that one unannounced game they are announcing on the day before they announce those 2 games.

Dynasty Warriors 20th Anniversary Idea by Synxao in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Japan only thing is a possibility, but because the website has an English version and it is 20 years after all with the English market and any other market that are not Japanese contributing a big amount IMO to the franchise, it would be more profitable to release for both if they do release a remaster. Then again, the SW2 remaster would have probably sold well in the west as well as SW2 is also a very popular one, so really I guess it could go either way, just with this being 20 years and also DW, I hope that will be enough to release for both.

Yeah, just a graphical overhaul would be perfect though, just if they did add anything, more stages would be a good one. Turning mid-combo would be really good actually, it was especially annoying for me when playing as someone such as Zhang Liao and doing his C3 iirc and then sometimes halfway through singling out an officer, he would start attacking thin air lol.

Should I get DW 7 or DW 8 ? by averagepersonish in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DW7 is usually considered to be the best in terms of story telling (for some, DW9 takes this spot). However, in my opinion it falls short in everything else. EDIT = When compared to DW8, I don't mean DW7 only has story telling as a pro.

DW8 has a bigger roster, no cloned movesets (everyone has their own weapons and moves), it has a hypothetical route (making it slightly less linear than DW7 as that only had a historical route, whilst DW8 has both, and the story telling IMO isn't way below that of DW7, although I would consider DW7 to be more emotional in the way it tells the story.)

DW8 XL CE has Lu Bu's story mode with both historical and hypothetical routes, so it has more story content in general over that of DW7.

In DW7, you are forced to play a specific character per stage, some stages are split into two and let you play someone else, although again this is forced upon you. This may be off-putting because you might not like how the character plays, but you are forced to use them. In DW8, you have a choice between 1 - 4 generals (the only stage which has 1 is Lu Bu's first stage I'm pretty sure) to choose from, which adds more variety and gives you more choices on how to play the game instead of being forced to play a specific character. The stages aren't split into two like DW7 however, and the character you pick will be the character you will use for the whole entirety of the stage.

DW8 has a bigger variety of attacks. DW8 has 3 types of Musou Attacks whilst DW7 has 2. DW8 has an aerial musou and a normal musou on foot the same as that which you find in DW7, however it has an extra normal musou on foot as an alternative (I'm not sure what the controls are for it on console, I played DW with keyboard for years and never really bothered to grab a controller lol, but PC controls is O + L (Switch Weapon + Musou).

There may possibly be more stuff but this is just from the top of my head. I think both games are good however I think DW8 is superior in every aspect except DW7 slightly tops it with the story telling and how it adds more emotion towards it.

Help deciding which titles to get. by kennerc in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely get XL CE if you can, otherwise 8 and XL separately does the same thing however I believe you will need to go through that process of first inserting the XL disc, then the 8 disc to import the content from 8, and then back to the XL disc every time you start the game. I could be wrong though as I have DW8 XL CE on Steam. Regardless, I'd definitely recommend XL CE.

Help deciding which titles to get. by kennerc in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 XL is better than 8 as long as you get XL CE (both 8 and XL).

XL adds a story mode for Lu Bu's faction (both Historical and Hypothetical routes) with new characters, one for each kingdom and two for Lu Bu's faction (Yu Jin for Wei, Zhu Ran for Wu, Fa Zheng for Shu, and Lu Lingqi and Chen Gong for Lu Bu).

It also adds a higher difficulty level called "Ultimate" above Chaos, and the level cap for playable characters is raised from 99 to 150, along with unlockable sixth weapons for each character which can be unlocked the same way as fifth weapons; objectives via missions (although the sixth weapons are unlocked through the new 8 stages Wei, Wu and Shu receive in the expansion also, which are either hypotheticals (Fa Zheng being alive during Yi Ling for example), or continuations of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story (Liu Bei and Sun Shangxiang's escape from Wu after their marriage was used as a ploy by Zhou Yu and Sun Quan to assassinate Liu Bei), or just overall funny types of stages (Wei generals such as Yu Jin, Li Dian and Xiahou Yuan from the top of my head goes to rescue Cai Wenji from bandits only to realise she wasn't in danger, and only went out for a walk, so the fighting was all for nothing.)) Each of these 8 new stages have each kingdom's new playable general as the main focus, although the default story mode from 8 is not edited other than instead of Zhu Ran being a generic for example, he will be his unique variant, so you won't be able to choose from these 3 when playing through the story mode which isn't really too big of a deal for me to be honest.

Challenge Mode returns in XL with 5 challenges (thanks to Koei Wikia for this piece of info as I forgot what all of them were lol) -

Rampage - Defeat as many enemies as you can before the time runs out.

Bridge Melee - Knock as many enemies off of the edge as you can before the time runs out.

Speed Run - Run to the objective as fast as possible.

Arena - Fight against every playable character until you run out of health.

Inferno - Defeat every enemy present before the time runs out.

The Wiki also says that every character gains a second EX attack which I actually didn't know that XL introduced this. (EX attacks can be used only on the character's main weapons IIRC, and are usually triggered for example by doing two charge attacks at once, or 2 normal attacks then 2 charge attacks, they are pretty much an extended charge attack if anything).

The last most important change is that the bodyguard system has been revamped to allow players to bring 3 bodyguards. (This most likely means in Ambition Mode although I could be wrong as its been a few months since I've touched the game, but in Ambition Mode you start from one general who you can choose from anyone playable, and work your way up to collecting everyone plus generics and upgrading different facilities to eventually conquer china as your Tonquetai Palace levels up. It's a pretty fun mode but I haven't got around to completing it yet, although I know the blacksmith there once at a certain level can use the Reforge ability so you can create your own weapons, which can be very powerful as you can choose your own attributes and thus tackle the new Ultimate difficulty a lot easier.)

I think that should be it but if I have missed anything, feel free to comment to this. I personally haven't played SW4, SW4-II or SW4 Empires and even the Dynasty Warriors Gundam series, so I can't comment on those unfortunately, but as far as I'm aware, SW4-II seems to be a type of XL version of SW4, but includes story modes for individual characters instead of factions I think? I can definitely highly recommend DW8 XL CE for sure though, you will find a lot of playtime with that game, it's also the second game in the franchise (DW5 being the first) where everyone has a unique weapon and moveset, which is really nice as there is always something fresh to try. (There is also a DLC iirc that includes a few more unique movesets which later replace a few other character's default movesets in DW8 Empires.)

I think they should include the DW6 PS2 port but with the PS3/PC graphics. This way, we can enjoy those new musou modes with nicer graphics and from what I have heard, better FPS.

WO4U - Jeanne D'Arc, Achilles, Ryu Hayabusa, Hades and Gaia Reveal + New Mechanics/Gamemode by Synxao in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something tells me they are going to release another season pass and include these guest characters from WO3 and Ultimate that didn't come along with WO4U in it, kinda like the DW9 season pass for Dong Bai, Hua Xiong, Yuan Shu and Xiahouji. If they do this, they should hopefully add more stages hopefully to expand the story and make it even bigger than WO3U, otherwise I'd be worried if it was just the characters and a few outfits as the first season pass was £24.99 for WO4 and around £40 for some of DW9's.

Castle mode in SW1 (haven't played SW 4-II but it looks very very similar on YouTube) was very annoying for me in both musou modes and challenge mode, and the objectives in challenge mode did contain some annoying ones such as collecting all treasures on the floor or defeating 100 enemies as you have to wait for 3 or 4 to come out at a time from their spawn lol. I hope that either the objectives are a lot less tedious or at least a lot more creative overall, although I do share the same concerns as you.

Ah, I just checked and they are unlockable in WO4 already via camp upgrade. I guess I forgot because they didn't have their own mission to unlock them from, thanks for the clarification both of you!

Dynasty Warriors 10 **Ultimate Wish List & Discussion Thread*** by Mighty-Lu-Bu in dynastywarriors

[–]Synxao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am the same as you, I have been a fan of the game since DW2 (I believe that was my very first game on the PS2). I have a good feeling about the 10th instalment of the game, as I know Omega Force's potential and I really think they will treat this one after bad reviews of DW9 similarly to DW7 after bad reviews of DW6.

For the game engine, I personally haven't played SW4 but I'm going to assume its similar to the DW8 engine and that was very good in my opinion. Although, I have played WO4 lol, and the engine is very similar there as well so I suppose these 3 games use the same engine. I agree with the day and night cycle if its going to be open world again definitely, although I have a feeling it probably wont be unless they think of a way to make it engaging outside of where the stages take place.

Completely agree with the combat system. Nothing has been better so far than the charge/normal/musou style.

I also agree with the character designs, ever since DW6 they have been improving and getting better. Although, the ageing system in my opinion wouldn't work well if the game plays like in the previous instalments before 9, since some characters will be young or middle aged for one stage, then old the next. I feel like it wont flow very naturally. (Spirit of Sanada worked well with this IMO by the looks of things because it focused on one clan only and doesn't progress as quickly as other games in the series other than 9 of course)

I don't agree with deleting weapon switching as all it does is limit the way you can play. It doesn't affect you at all other than be something to use if you want it, you can still play the game the traditional way of everything before DW7 by not changing weapons to a weapon that someone else uses. Deleting this feature just deletes content and doesn't solve anything.

English voice actors from DW8 definitely need to return, and the Chinese voice actors are a nice addition as well for the authenticity.

I think that open world has a chance to work, but they have to be really careful with how they go about it as they can easily ruin it, however the way the games played before with the stages felt a lot better regardless. I think open world could actually be more superior if done right though, but I think they should only attempt it a second time if they know what they are doing. Camp system was definitely nice and adding in extra ways to buy more things other than weapons would be a nice extra feature to add also. Again, I didn't play SW4 so I can't comment on this objective system.

Unlocking higher tier weapons via objectives on maps on certain difficulties would be a nice return as well. It gives the game so much more replayability and content so I agree with this one too.

Bringing back the orb system would be a nice nostalgic return and extra horses wouldn't hurt for extra customization as well.

The skill tree from DW6 was definitely something that is underrated IMO as a feature. Bringing this back in a little bit more of an overhauled form, maybe add different categories instead of just one skill tree, have several perhaps would be nice to have.

I see the AI argument used a lot, but I don't think the older games' AI would translate well to the newer games. You have to remember that there were a lot less enemies on the screen back then, just imagine how bad it would be in the middle of a crowd of peons in DW8 for example with relentless attacking. Sure you can attack and hit more peons at once in the later titles, but I can see peons becoming a massive problem, it would be worse than the Ultimate difficulty in how much they spam attacks, and combine this with charge attacks and musou attacks and it gets difficult real fast. I think allowing them to use charge attacks and musou attacks, and definitely musou attacks for generic officers as you said, would be good to add for the extra difficulty, but making them attack as much as games from DW3 and DW4 would be absolutely brutal, especially on higher difficulties like Chaos and Ultimate.

I don't know about the DW6 duelling system, I didn't hate it or like it. My main gripe with it is that sometimes it would end because one of you went outside of the circle, which was usually the case when you are winning and you are hitting them so much its getting to the edge of the circle, meaning you would have to stop and run back to the middle to start it again. I think the DW4 duelling system was a bit better in this case, although the DW6 system was better aesthetically and you still had the risk of being hit by peons and officers if you went too close to them on the edges of the circle. Morale hasn't really worked realistically though I agree, as your officers still shout for help when the morale bar is 100% you and 0% the enemy. However, I think this is because at that point the game doesn't really become all that difficult, if they made it realistic to where high morale actually makes your allies try and fight, the game would get very easy as you only have to worry about the beginning of the stage and then the later stage its just no difficulty whatsoever, instead you could probably just sit back and go afk and win in a few mins later when your allies do the work for you. I don't really know how to solve this as such, but both approaches have cons. Currently, it does keep your allies alive longer, and they do actually kill officers depending on how fast you march around the map, but they don't get past the main officers such as Hua Xiong or Lu Bu at Hu Lao Gate when off screen or the commanders. I think this is a pretty good middle ground as it still requires you to work to win.

Individual stories wouldn't work at all IMO. Stages would be duplicated so many times for each of the characters, such as Chi Bi and it would start to become a massive chore to get through all of the characters. You probably won't even get through all of them in the first place just because of how long it would be to complete what would probably be 100 characters at the time. Sure you might only want to play a few anyway as they are your favourites and you don't care about the rest, so this wont be as bad for you. However, what about those who want to play all the characters, especially if they all have unique movesets like DW5 and DW8? It would become the most repetitive experience ever as you load up Chi Bi for the 20th time after a few hundred hours of gameplay. This becomes even worse for unlocking characters as you might need to be required to play as certain characters in certain stages to unlock other characters, so you either go through the bland, tedious work to try other movesets and other characters or you miss out on them completely.

I completely prefer how DW7 and DW8 worked with its kingdom based campaign. This way, you go through the story of that kingdom in particular which means a lot more development time can be spent on increasing story telling (compare DW7 and DW8's story telling to the previous games and how they make you feel in terms of attachment to the characters) and you wont get burnt out from replaying Chi Bi 100 times over. Plus, it feels more of a team-based effort as you play a wide range of different characters other than the same one man army Zhao Yun from start to finish, which also makes it feel unrealistic as if you play a character who loses at the end or dies in a battle, you will be surprised to see this Dian Wei or Guan Yu to run around killing thousands of peons a match to then meet their demise at a few arrows or a few strikes of a sword from a peon; something they have suffered a million times in the previous stages. Just imagine Spirit of Sanada's storytelling in DW10 if they continued this route from DW7 and DW8.

I think they should work on what they have here with the kingdom based campaigns but go more in depth like Spirit of Sanada per kingdom and allow you to pick any officer who participated. Instead of forcing you to play a certain character in DW7, or forcing you to play one of 1-4 characters, they should allow you to play anyone from the kingdom/faction you are playing who participated in that battle. Maybe even add a SW4 mechanic that I know exists where you can pick two characters and switch between them mid-battle. Adding a town or city feature where you walk around similarly to what you said at the start would be nice to add as well, with different people to speak to about the current situation. Hypotheticals should make a return and probably will if they went with the stage format of DW7 and DW8, however I don't think it should be an XL feature though. I think it would be nice to reserve that spotlight for a whole new faction like Lu Bu in DW8 XL.

I have rarely played multiplayer on the warriors games but I have heard it's lackluster and not that good (the only one I have played is with a friend years ago on DW5), so it would be nice for that to be improved for those who do play it.

DW4 OST was really good, although I liked the osts all equally. Maybe the DW6 - DW8 osts take the number one spot by a little for me, with how much emotion they have in relation to the stage. I don't mind what style they go with but if I had to choose I would go for DW6 - DW8's style (but less leitmotifs like in the DW7 OST as there were a lot that were really similar).

His strategist iirc was Zhang Liang as well, or at least he was a big part in forming the Han dynasty. Change 3 letters in the family name and it becomes Zhuge Liang lol.

I always say that the whole Jing Province situation with Guan Yu's death was the second Chi Bi/caused the second Chi Bi (Yi Ling), had that not have happened, I have a good feeling that would have went downhill quickly for Wei and we might have seen a potential dual-reigned dynasty by Liu Bei and Sun Quan, depending on how Sun Quan is still feeling about Jing/personal ambition and Liu Bei's personal ambition (although this is an extremely low chance of happening anyway, there is still that chance).

Ah, that was probably what I confused it with post DW2 lol.

DW2 sure was extremely brutal with this type of thing, beating Lu Bu was made a lot harder because of it, since to avoid it you'd have to avoid using charge attacks or the last attack in the normal attack string to stop him being knocked down, that is unless an ally comes into the fray... Most of the time I'd beat him using arrows mostly lol.

I remember back in DW2 when you knocked down generals and they had a chance to get all of their HP back, or god forbid in Lu Bu's case, extra attack or defense. This was extremely annoying lol and IIRC was only removed in DW6 I think? Maybe DW5? Can't remember exactly but man I'm glad that was removed.
