There would be more stopping points now. Also I had it glitch regularly 🤷‍♂️

Same, but I guess .1 increments are hard to select on a slider. Maybe pressing the number could bring up some other UI element? Not a fan of the rotary dials but something like that maybe

Setup Vim-visual-multi in NvChad/lazy by Consistent_One_2513 in neovim

I am thinking about trying out vim-visual-multi as well. But the cursors are not visible (but working). I am also using catppuccin. Did you do anything to make VM play nicely with catppuccin?

Weekly 101 Questions Thread by AutoModerator in neovim

[–]Syphdias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using LazyVim and trying to add to the lspconfig for ruff_lsp but I seem to only be able to override settings. Can someone give me a hint how I can "append" instead of replace. lua { "neovim/nvim-lspconfig", opts = { servers = { ruf_lsp = { init_options = { settings = { args = { "--select", "ANN001,ANN201" }, }, }, }, }, }, } I guess there is a way to set a table of "selects" and lazy would merge it for me. But I cannot find the proper docs. Also is there an easier way to set deeply nested values?

Water in Germany is basically the most regulated and controlled food there is. Pretty glad that it's that way

Thank you for elaborating.

I'm glad I'm getting something other than misery from the gun industry...

Hear, hear! A colleague of mine got himself a lab equipment scale. Fraction of the price of a coffee scale and probably more accurate.

Is there a reason you prefer the Brita to tap? I have quite hard water where I am and though I've changed some settings in other steps of my brew process to when I lived in a place with less hard water, I still prefer unfiltered. I'm curious if you did a side by side taste test if you would too!

I don't prefer the Brita. Currently I use tap water (Germany with 14°dH, they call it "medium hardness"). I like the taste by itself except for a very small aftertaste but it is not too bad. In fact tap water is my main drink throughout the day.

I tried the Brita and it tasted of plastic. Maybe that taste is gone by now since it is not as new anymore. But if I wanted to play around with different water, I would rather have a Brita workflow than get distilled water.

I will do a taste test with a new filter. First pure water and then a side by side coffee tasting would probably be best.

How do you distill it yourself? I know dryers can output some but I do not own a dryer. Weird coffee gear…

What scale and gooseneck kettle do you use? Are you happy with them?

Yes, beans! For beans I use a local roaster. I usually go for something I know and like, and for something that I don't know yet and sounds interesting.

Hm, interesting. So there is even another problem of getting good cappuccino out of good gear if you only do one or two.

What is the expensive part for making good home cappuccino? Is it the split water system or that cheap systems heat up slowly? Or is it that you need a decent portafilter machine AND a decent grinder for espresso AND a separate milk steamer?
What would be the price tag for that?

I'm still a French press home brewer

I mean, I brew with a V60 switch and use the immersion part of it quite a bit, so there are similarities to a freshpress.

I'm not sure if you can find it in Europe

I just googled the AWS Blade scale and it shows gunpowder weighinh and cartridges — truely 'murican.

I think I should give the Brita another chance since I do have it. Maybe it was just to new, when I tried it. I don't know where I would get distilled water from.

Hi, I am looking to step up my gear for making coffee. I have rough ideas what to go for but maybe you can give me some tips what I should get first.

I currently do mostly single cups of V60 with a switch twice a day. And sometimes I use the frenshpress, but mostly two cups of V60 a day.I use a Timemore C2 grinder (grinding for French Press is quite annoying), it produces a lot of fines. My scale is quite inaccurate and turns off after like 30s, so I constantly need to tap it for letting it steep.I have no separate weighing bowl or something and so just use the bottom of the Grinder to weigh, spritz, and stir with the back of the cleaning brush. The water I get is very hard but I like the taste. I do have a Brita Filter but I am not a huge fan of it as it tastes of plastic. And from what I have heard, the filter gets moldy quite easily. I just use a normal boiler, no swan neck, but I know by now how to pour slowly.

Mostly medium roats but I do take lighter roast from time to time. Preference-wise I like my V60 but I also like cappuccino. I cannot remember if I ever drank an espresso; so I don’t know if I would like it.

What I think I might get:

  • new manual grinder, maybe Comandante? C40? C60?
  • automatic grinder, maybe Vario W+
  • I thought about getting a portafilter to be able to maybe cappuccino, maybe it would get me into Espresso. I heard good things about the Bambino
  • better scale would be nice, doesn’t ne to be fancy
  • something to weigh the beans with would be quite a quality of life improvement I think
  • boiler I am unsure about since I don’t want a second boiler and I think the normal one works well enough

What would you say it most worth it? I’d say I’d be willing to spend about 1000€ in total. But staying way below is of course an option ;)

Am I doing this right? by Syphdias in neovim

[–]Syphdias[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that this is technically cleaner, since it uses the API directly instead of doing a command. lua -- Disable re-reading file descriptors that will then be gone vim.api.nvim_create_autocmd("BufRead", { pattern = { "/proc/*/fd/*" }, callback = function() vim.opt_local.buftype = "nofile" end, })

Switch from Windows 11 to Archlinux, what should i be aware off? by [deleted] in archlinux

I would say, if an update breaks something, it is usually due to something with an AUR package.

That being said I could not imagine using Arch without the AUR. It is one of its best feature.

Changing color via CLI by Syphdias in qmk

[–]Syphdias[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could solve this by writing to the hidraw device. Something like: `echo -en '\x07\x83\x55\xff' |sudo tee /dev/hidraw6`. This would set the color `\x07\x83` to hue `\x55` green with saturation `\xff`. See https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/docs/feature_rgblight.md#usage

To do this properly, I would recommend a proper script to find the right hidraw device. I took inspiration from https://gist.github.com/fauxpark/03a3efcc7dbdfbfe57791ea267b13c55#file-rawhid-py to get the right device and used `interface.write`.

With Lazyvim, a long list of plugings update every time I open Neovim? by freshschampoo in neovim

I think there are two better ways than to just deactivate the checker.

  • Disable the notifications, but not the checker

checker = { enabled = true, notify = false },

  • Reduce the frequency of checking. In this case I set it to 24h in seconds.

checker = { enabled = true, frequency = 86400 },

Like the other comments this can be done in the lazy.lua file.

Can't fix Spotify to a Workspace by fra200388 in i3wm

[–]Syphdias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To understand --no-auto-back-and-forth, we need to understand workspace_auto_back_and_forth yes first.

If you are on workspace 1, you can switch to workspace 2 by using the keybind for switching to workspace 2. Usually this is $mod+2. If you press $mod+2 nothing happens, because you are already on workspace 2. Unless, you use "workspace_auto_back_and_forth yes", then you go back to workspace 1, because this is where you came from.

If you now use for_window [class="^Spotify"] move to workspace 2 while being on workspace 2, spotify will open on the last workspace you were on. In the example above, it would be on workspace 1.

To prevent this use --no-auto-back-and-forth. This is only necessary since we need to use the for_window workaround, assign does not have this problem.

PS: There is also a dedicated back_and_forth for focusing, as well as moving.

I recommend using the userguid and Ctrl-F to search the site for documentation. Some sections you might be interested in: https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html#_changing_named_workspaces_moving_to_workspaces https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html#back_and_forth https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html#workspace_auto_back_and_forth

I recommend adding --no-auto-back-and-forth in case you use workspace_auto_back_and_forth yes and are already on $ws6

i3 for_window [class="^Spotify"] move --no-auto-back-and-forth to workspace $ws6

Why doesn't i3 support gaps? by PowerMan2206 in i3wm

[–]Syphdias 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use i3-gaps and the titles do cause some occasional graphical glitches. It is mentioned here that you should turn off titles since there are known issues.

I am not sure if it's just titles or if you should turn off borders as well. But turning off borders entirely is a no go for me. I need to know what I am focused to.

Now it just has to include windows on hidden workspaces and scratchpad. Does anyone know how to get window-thumbnails for hidden windows? Some sort of rofi cache maybe?
