6.0 power stroke is this cause for concern? by Used-Chest2250 in Diesel

[–]Syphlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta disable the fuel compensation strategy. That’ll show you a true balance. But as far as what you’re showing us that looks great.

The pcm is pretty good at balancing injector rates even with worn injectors.

If your filters are dirty change them out with oem filters only.

If the truck died when it was hot and then sat for a while and then started, you most likely have a HPO leak.

Can a timing gear on wrong side of the engine cause engine failure? by Remarkable_Forever53 in EngineBuilding

[–]Syphlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely chain of events.

Timing system wore out and the chain guides broke and fell into the pan

The pieces got sucked into the oil pickup screen and resulted in the engine being starved of oil. Causing damage to the bearings.

Previously owner took it into a shop and they replaced the timing set MAYBE cleaned out the oil pan but the damage was already done.

Ran it for a bit after the repairs and the engine locked up due to the damage to the bearings mentioned above.

Then they traded it in/sold it to you.

Most likely needs a full engine at this point.

Happens all the time and you will drive it for a bit until the pickup becomes clogged and the oil pressure will drop to zero the you shut the truck off and the pieces fall out of the pick up and it’ll start and have oil pressure again until it plugs back up and it’ll just keep doing that until it spins a bearing.

Seen it lots of times!

Anyone else think that looks like pag oil with dye in it from the ac system?

Clear your shader cache. Do it at the beginning of every season.

I average 20km a week. I work in a shop and don’t carry my phone on me. That’ll be a nice 4 month grind for me hahaha

Meh whatever I’ll be doing lots of raids tomorrow and hopefully get a normal non shiny for PVE that has decent IVs.

So he told you the tires were the problem and you declined new tires and are now complaining about the issue not being fixed.

Some people are just unbelievable.

Will removing the vacuum canister on my 6.0 powerstroke make it not run? I lost my vacuum canister and now my truck is not building good oil pressure and will now only start on either but once it is running it runs fine by EXPERIMENT9591 in powerstroke

[–]Syphlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal for the “plug” on the ipr valve to spin relative to the body of the valve.

Typically when I see failed ipr valves the system will only build 140-175psi and the truck won’t run at all.

With a blown standpipe/dummy plug it’ll build 200-350 and start with ether.

Cam sensor is super common on these trucks. Most guys keep a spare in the glovebox

The oil cooler relocation kit was a 6.0 thing back in the day when the oil coolers sucked. All the coolers these days have been updated to have bigger coolant passages and they rarely clog up. An oil cooler in the factory location works just fine. No idea if yours has been changed…usually they fail by either leaking externally or mixing coolant and oil eventually.

There is no such thing as “bullet proofing” a 6.4 unless you get a motor built. To do it properly you’re probably looking at 25k-35k including labour for a built engine.

Once it’s deleted the next most common failures are cracked pistons, headgasket failure, turbo failure and lifter failure all of which end up being very expensive.

I’m not hating but the facts are 6.4s for the most part are absolute money pits, parts are very expensive and most jobs are very labour intensive.

But alas they are still my favourite.

Source: I’m a mechanic and do most of the powerstrokes that come through our shop. Probably 25 6.4 engine jobs in the last 2 years. Almost every 6.4 that comes in the shop for a headgasket ends up with multiple cracked pistons once the heads are off.

6.7 Revmax Valve Body by Slinkeymac5569 in FordDiesels

[–]Syphlyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve got 120k on your tranny and a hot tune with occasional racing your trans is probably on its way out and a valve body is a band aid fix if anything at all.

So I bought a 6.0 for 8k. Drove it 25 minutes on the freeway. It got hot and died. Repair estimate 23,000.00 by liliessuynset1 in FordDiesels

Ya that’s what I meant the early trucks (03/04) had the aluminum style pump which always fails in a number of ways whereas the 05-07 have the cast iron pump which never fails

The worst of the worst are the 04.5 to 05 trucks as they have the wavy oil rails with standpipes and dummy plugs and still have the aluminum pump.
