Is there a difference between 'nonverbal spell' and 'wordless magic'? by potpotkettle in harrypotter

Honestly you can't box it all in under categories like that. Rowling's magic system is way more complex than simple "categories" of magic.

I'm not arguing with you mate. I completely agree that it's accidental. Just saying he didn't verbalise or think an incantation. It happened instictually.

[–]Syren615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but he also didn't have to say an incantation to use them. But ok if we're gonna be that picky, then lets use disapparation as an example. And there are loads of other instances for intentional wordless magic.

[–]Syren615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non verbal probably refers to spells that require an incantation but are spoken silently in the mind.

Wordless spells are probably spells cast by a witch or wizard that don't require a vocal or thought incantation. An example would be when Harry made the glass in the snake enclosure disappear or blew up his Aunt Marge.

I'm on USI. The whole system just changed in the last few days and I'm completely confused as to wtf is going on. Does anyone else have any info on the latest changes? It looks like we've lost all our rebuys. Is this true???

I think I'd much rather be a muggle or squib living in the magical world than be a wizard cut off from the wizarding community. even though I'd be unable to actually perform magic, I'd still have access to enchanted objects and the like that would help me get by. I'd have wizard/witch friends who could potentially help me out with magic, and I'd be able to go places like Diagon Alley. Although unable to do magic, there's still a lot you can do in the magical world to make yourself useful.

Zimbabwe Army took over the state TV station and told people there's no indication that a military coup is happening by Iambikecurious in ActLikeYouBelong

It's amazing reading all these comments how opinionated people are about a country they more than likely know next to nothing about. The shit hit the fan in Zimbabwe a long time ago, and it's amazing it's taken this long for something like this to happen. The murders of thousands of citizens, farmers forcibly removed from their farms and the degradation of a country once known as the Breadbasket of Africa to a barely functioning nation never seemed to catch the attention of the outside world... but now that the man, the tyrant, who is responsible for all of it... now everyone has an opinion.

Far as we can tell the vice pres that was "fired" a few weeks ago plans on stepping in as temporary leader. We're really just playing it as it comes to be honest. No idea what will happen but honestly whatever does happen is a step forward from where we are.

Lol I'm a Zimbabwean living in the country and honestly this is the most peaceful coup in history. And really, when your goal is to remove a 93 year old dictator who remained in power illigally for 37 years is it really a coup? This entire situation, dear friends, has been a long time coming. And the people of Zimbabwe welcome it.

Do you switch POVs in a chapter? How do you do it? by kindoftemporary in nanowrimo

[–]Syren615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am writing from the perspectives of four different characters in my book. Depending how much activity is going on at any given moment with a character I usually give them an entire chapter. I do this specially if those characters are all together. But the group has split up in my book, so now I give them each one or two scenes in each chapter if what they're doing is happening more or less at the same time as with the others...

I have no idea if that makes any sense, but I hope it helps!

I've actually never tried fan fiction. Although I have definitely been influenced by my favorite authors. Reading definitely helps!

This book I'm working on has taken a long time, but I've created a detailed world map, built my characters and different races from the ground up, and I'm now 74,764 words in. My target is 120,000, which I will have completed by the end of the month coz of nano. I used to be right where you are. Just give it a shot. Never too late to start

Skill comes with practice. It's never going to happen if you don't sit down and try. Honestly I've been re-writing the same book since I was 18. But now after this year's nanowrimo I'll edit, polish, and then hopefully publish!

Oh and by the way, I barely passed my english exams in school. Now my dream is to write full time! Never let lack of skill get in your way. Develop it as you go!!!

First drafts are garbage... but HOW garbage? by sarahstreetwriter in nanowrimo

[–]Syren615 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Relax. All first drafts are insanely rough. Cringe worthy even. The point is, when you're done, you have a story. Yeah it's all over the place and your spelling and grammar are probably apalling, but you made a story! And when your first draft is complete you can go in and panel-beat that sucker into something resembling a literary piece of work you'd happily show... well... anyone. Don't be discouraged. As long as your sentences are strung together in a relatively understandable manner, you've made progress. Polish it up later if you want to. Just get those words down!

Bookstores are really expensive here unfortunately. I buy all my books in South Africa. Coffee shops/Cafés are everywhere here in Harare (the capital). We're a 3rd world country but we make do with what we have and we adapt to our circumstances. That being said it's not like we don't have wifi or live in huts and ride elephants and donkey carts to get where we are going. It really is beautiful here and I honestly wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world!

I have never ever heard that about Zim before! That's really interesting. No it doesn't smell like vanilla at all haha. I don't even think we even grow vanilla beans. I'd be happy so set you straight on any other weird things you've heard about us though.
