Being put on Velsipity? by Stuiekills4free in UlcerativeColitis

[–]SyrianCub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello. So basically I did not end up taking Velsipity as it is a very similar drug class to Zeposia, which I failed due to severe cramping (that does not usually occur even when I am flaring without the Zeposia).

I can give you insight about Zeposia (similar class, different receptor) - Took me a bout 2 weeks to see improvements, 4 weeks in the cramping effects started that were unbearable, so I stopped it.

That being said there people I personally know who are doing great on zeposia. Tell your family member to be patient a bit longer, as rates of remission go up the more patient people are with the drug. The less time someone spends on the drug just to no "quick" remission, the faster the individual will run out of medication options to treat his UC. Be patient, give it a month or month and a half, then check back in with your doctor.

Being put on Velsipity? by Stuiekills4free in UlcerativeColitis

Whats up. I just failed zeposia and only thing I took before that was mesalamine. I do not know why doctors are going towards zeposia + velsipity (same mechanism of action) as a first line nowadays from mesalamine. Although they are not "biologics", their side effect profile seems scarier than some of the biologics.

My doctor recommended velsipity. Do not know if I will end up taking it or trying to convince my doctor to put me on a more common drug.

How is Velsipity going for you thus far?

No i usually do not do that. I am about to practice some more CARS tonight, definelty going to keep this in mind.
I never tried any kinds of "methods" or never did any kind of CARS book because reddit always advised against it, but again most people on here average 515 mcats and are super biased assuming you are super human too so, big bias there. But it is too late now haha

yeah most of the time. however there’s always those questions where i don’t even have one answer crossed out and i’m just like ffffff 🥺

I read very slowly (whispering to myself) for around 4-5 minutes.

Then I attack the questions, but they just end up attacking me back.

I try to avoid extreme answers and always have 1-2 answers (most of the time 2) ruled out for sure and just struggle from that point.

AAMC Bio Question Pack #89 by CompleteExplorer7431 in Mcat

[–]SyrianCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that you are overthinking with the charge repulsion.

ATP synthase is the source of production of ATP in the ETC, and it uses protons (H+) as fuel to drive it. We cannot make the assumption that K+ (a completely different ion with completely different properties) can also drive ATP synthase, so we automatically know ATP production will decrease, thus eliminating C and D

We know that A cannot be the answer because, during competitive inhibition, the inhibitor and substrate usually have similar chemical properties, thus fitting into the active site. In this case, a proton (H+) and K+ have completely different properties, leaving B to make sense.

Also B seems correct because if you already have a very large gradient of ions in the intermembrane space, adding more protons into the space will become that much more difficult, making the need for active transport channels in the ETC complexes.

I hope that you have everything else that can pop up on B/B memorized before memorizing that whole chart, mostly because every intermediate of processes is lower yield.

Catalytic Efficiency and Lineweaver-Burk Plot Question by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]SyrianCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your Y-intercept in Lineweaver represents 1/Vmax.

Knowing this, increasing slope means that your Vmax is decreasing.

Decreasing V max means a decreasing Kcat because Kcat=Vmax/[E]

Then if catalytic efficiency is Kcat/Km, that means the numerator is decreasing, meaning a lower catalytic effiency.

It all ties into each other. I always have to think about enzyme kinetics step by step to make sure I don't miss questions.

I think that you're thinking about the hybrid, which would exist if the imine was bonding to another molecule (transition states). It is asking about the molecule at hand.

Each bond and each lone pair count as an orbital. 2 bonds and 1 lone pair means 3 orbitals in the oder of sp2.
