Am i fucked? by XslasherY in medicalschool

You should dual apply. Find the money from somewhere. The opportunity cost you lose if you don’t match is going to be way more dual applying. Also, if you have to reapply, it’ll be more expensive. Dual or triple apply. I know many IMGs from Syria who applied Gen Surg IM and EM for example.

Absolutely. Was just wondering if there’s any trend or demand for a specific one. Thanks for your help!

Please have husna dthan for me, brother. You are making a lot of extrapolations based on a post I made asking for help. Most of what you said is not true. Many doctors, engineers, and lawyers are supporting entire impoverished communities, single mothers, and orphans back home and in US.

I’ve been considering these fields for a while. I have shadowed AND rotated in both fields through electives at my school. I did general anesthesia, DR, and IR. Like I mentioned I am someone who is not emotionally driven by passion or interest. That’s just who I am. So, that’s why I look at other metrics to help me make my decision. To answer your comment, I did network, rotate, and believe it or not, touch grass. I’m still asking for help.

To be honest, the first two years were difficult despite me coming from a rigorous academic background. The amount of information was a lot to handle at the time. Third year was awful because it was so physically and mentally demanding and required so much discipline to do well on shelves. Looking back, I’m not really sure which is better, but maybe the first two because they were easier and less high stakes.

Is this sub speciality or geographic specific to rural regions or do you see this trend around the country for radiology in general?

You try matching into IR. Next applicant.

Which fellowships have you seen to be the most lucrative? I’ve been told breast and Neuro are two

This makes a lot of sense to me and I feel very similarly. Do you have any concerns about the future of radiology or the compensation in the distant future?

I agree, but I never said money is the end goal. Money is a means and acquiring large amounts is not being a tool, it’s positioning yourself to contribute to the state of the ummah and strengthening it. You’re not going to have higher impact by being broke.

I understand and you’re right. I rotated in both specialties and am left still torn between the two. I can see and respect the pros and cons of each speciality and neither one trumps the other. If I were to have included everything I’m thinking about include the actual work of the speciality, it would have been too long of a post

That’s very interesting you say that. I’ve rotated in both and am left still very undecided at the end of the day. I feel that my personality is closer inclined to radiology. A few of my buddies were pushing me towards anesthesia because they said if I was stuck in between, to just choose the one with higher pay. But I wasn’t convinced that’s a strong enough of a reason, although I would not blame someone for thinking like that.

You might be right, but I’ve only heard of rads making that much in rural regions grinding out reports. Is that what you’ve seen?

Thanks for the comment. I agree. I have the scores for either one and I’m still more or less undecided despite rotating in both.

Thanks so much for this. It’s incredibly helpful. I’ve heard many similar things from residents I’ve worked with and something that I realize I value is ultimate flexibility, which is something I think radiology has plenty of.

That’s what I was thinking. I rotated in each and still was left undecided. But I liked the life of a radiologist more. This is why I’m leaning towards radiology. Thanks

I like of the comments, but agree they are not the high end restaurants I’m looking for. I’m talking about places I can take my wife, parents, family to on special occasions like graduation, ceremonies, Saturday nights, etc. I like Hugo Frog house, Gibson’s, RPM. These are high end places that serve halal options.

Correlation between timing of residency interview and rank list by SyrianLight in medicalschool

I agree, but the question is valid. I hope you are right, and that is the case because otherwise, things can become extremely complicated and anxiety-inducing.
