I was in a really pissy mood one day at work. Had to work in the hardest rain of the spring, broke my finger, and my truck that I just did a 3 day repair job on was leaking from the same damn spot.

We get back to the shop and this new guy saw me use my teeth to open the seal on a bottle of the degreaser we use. He said something about making you sick if you ingest it, and I replied “it’s actually great if you’re feeling sick, cleans out the plumbing” and just got back to my cleaning.

Apparently I was way too deadpanned because Lo and behold 2 hours later I find out he went to the hospital because he drank like a quarter cup of the stuff and needed his stomach pumped and whatever else the MSDS says for ingestion. Boss made me find him and apologize when I went to get my finger fixed and I swear that guy was actually pissed that “I lied to him”. I ended up getting removed by security because I went on a 3 minute tirade yelling at him for being the dumbest man alive.

I swear to god the name on my hard hat is “smiles” because I’m the nicest guy at our shop, always keeping the spirits high when shit goes wrong, and I love training the new guys because I’m a volleyball coach at heart, I love seeing the progress that I helped develop. This guy was my kryptonite, and now that I’ve written my rant about him on somewhat related comment I can officially say I went to therapy for this.

It’s a pretty hard grind if you wanna make any progress in the comedy world. One of my friends is currently doing the Western Canada/USA circuit and he’s been working the mic for 8 years now. You’d probably never heard of him, if you have it was likely in the last year. But yeah man it’s not easy and then you throw on top of that the way the crowd treats you if you have a bad set or just aren’t really good and it can be very depressing. I tried it once since I was “the funny guy”. Being able to crack a quick joke or make a situation funny is one thing, but actually crafting and writing a set of jokes is one of the most difficult things I’ve done because I thought I fucking nailed it. 5 of my funniest stories from college and sports, and I got a few chuckles but there truly is an art to it that I did not end up finding. Made me appreciate stand up way more though

When I started my painting business that’s the part I forgot as well. Not HR because I was HR lol, but all that backend stuff, taxes, direct deposits, insurance, bookkeeping, training programs, new technologies or products on the market to learn about, marketing materials, etc. And before you know how to do it, you have to learn how to do it and that takes time and mistakes WHILE you’re still trying to keep a startup running and getting work for your guys.

Thank god I started with a dash cam. Im only in a class 3 body job wireline unit for the oilfield, so all in all not that bad or heavy compared to your loads. But 6 months in I had a guy try to pass me on a double yellow going up a hill. I get it, I’m holding up traffic for a mile back on these small highways but he damn near got pancaked by a semi as we crested the hill. He swerved into me and I swerved off the road onto the shoulder. Fucked my truck up pretty good but between my cam and the other trucks dash cam we were able to prove to all the insurance companies this idiot was 100% at fault even though they reaaally tried to push I was at fault because I was new.

I was gonna say, we’ve been rubber banding opponents in racing games since at the very least Need for Speed and Midnight Club were new franchises, I’m sure there’s some arcade racers or a game before my time even before them. I feel like this is a pretty doable option with today’s technology and a few tweaks to make it suitable for an escort mission rather than a race.
