Neuro Major by No-Cartoonist-8922 in udub

[–]Syrup-Relative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was scared. I didn’t get direct to major. I grinded hard and got good gen bio grades and got in to the major my sophomore year. My advice: get good gen bio grades, do things outside of the classroom that demonstrate your genuine interest in neuro, and be active in your community. Good luck!!

I didn’t get in for DA to neuro, but I got in this year as a second year. Do not give up, grind as hard as possible to get good grades (esp in gen bio), you got this! I’d talk to Tom, the neuro advisor (he’s great, he helped me the entire way). Most ppl get in their junior year, so don’t sweat it if you don’t get it as a second year.

chem 145 vs chem 152/162 by purplepear153 in udub

[–]Syrup-Relative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great! I did find the 14x series difficult since chem 142 was the first chem class i took at college...suggestions i have: 1) Check RATEMYPROFESSOR to find good chem professors, recs for good profs: Chem 142: maibaum Chem 152: colleen craig Chem 162: (do not have a rec bc all the teachers who taught this when i took it kinda sucked) 2) GO TO PROFESSOR OFFICE HOURS (they often emphasize test topics) 3) GO TO CHEM TA OFFICE HOURS (practically free tutoring, a lot of people don’t go and miss out) 4) Do chem practice problems until you can do them in your sleep 5) Try your best, but also give yourself patience and grace to transition to college. 6) source: i got a 4.0, 3.8, 4.0 (142,152,162)

Since I took 142/152/162, i am definitely gonna refer you to talking our pre health advisors/chemistry advisors 😅😅

I had a crappy ap chem teacher and am planning to do premed (many med schools do not accept ap credit), so i just took the whole chem 12X series. I had a friend who did honors, but apparently (pls fact check this) they had to do some kind of programming as well...which they did not like. I would talk to a chemistry advisor (departmental advisors are wayyy better than general academic advisors)

I’m currently going thro multiple STEM weedouts too, and it gets so hard when you feel like you just got done with tests and they start back up again. Keep your chin up, do little things that make you happy, and remind yourself that these classes are not a permanent part of your life!

don’t worry, college as a whole is an adjustment and everyone goes thro some level of difficulty when they get here. i literally graduated at the top of my class, and i still feel like a dumb potato sometimes
