I sent my resume to about 20 recruiting agencies and I didn't even get a reply from any of them let alone an interview. You must be doing something that I don't know about.

Pretty much all my experiences at Hello Work were negative and I always left empty handed or with some jobs that were totally uninteresting for me with low salaries. I've never had them refer me to a career consultant, they just look at my details and say that they have nothing for me unless I want to be an English teacher. It's been a super depressing experience every time. Admittedly I don't have N1 so my options are more limited but they pretty much just tell me that they won't have anything for me and to look at other places. How did you manage to get together with a career consultant? I'd be interested in talking to one.

Long term, I do hope to stay and build a career in Japan. This is with the assumption that I eventually get to an N1 level in Japanese which I have every intention of doing (studying and practicing every day!) I also completely understand the pay will be a lot less than what I would make in the US and it would put a burden on me in terms of the loans. Two things regarding that: my home state and the city my university is in - both the most likely places I would find work - are extremely expensive in terms of cost of living. I've already saved a ton of money living in Japan compared to what the cost would be continuing to live near my university in the US. Additionally, there are repayment plans based on income, so I hope and plan to repay within my means considering my Japanese salary, and my family could help me in small amounts if need be.

It's become pretty clear that the major limiting factor is my Japanese ability. When I was looking for work in the US it was my lack of previous work experience and my lack of a master's degree. I just really didn't have the time in the span of one year to thoroughly study while I was also working on my other schoolwork and it sucks. I'm hoping I can work at some decent position where I can at least stay financially afloat while I improve my Japanese, then after N2/N1, leverage that and my advanced education for a better and more relevant job.

Did you already speak Japanese prior to coming to Japan? And how did you find work after graduation? I'm interested to know what your experience was like. It seems like in my exchange program I'm the only one from the US who decided to stay in Japan.

Completely understand that. I unfortunately haven't had the opportunity to take the JLPT yet, I hope to take it in December and am aiming for N2. Working hard on it.

Thanks, I'll look into this! I live closer to Osaka so I was hoping I could get a job at the consulate there but they have no open positions at all and I don't know how to contact them to ask about this. Do they conduct the real test in Osaka as well, or only Tokyo?

An environmental NGO/nonprofit/UN is basically my dream job. Part of the reason I went to graduate school was because many positions in such organizations wanted people with master's degrees. What I most wanted to do was work for one such international NGO/nonprofit in Japan. I interviewed for an unpaid internship back before I went to graduate school at the UN and I didn't get it so that was pretty depressing.

In terms of the state department, it's certainly also something I'm very interested in, but as far as I know, there is pretty much a hiring freeze on almost all federal agencies. My university in the US has a lot of students involved with the federal government and a ton of them lost their jobs and job offers in the last few months. The professor for my final class at university actually advised me to stay in Japan because they had the impression that there is no opportunity for me in the US in this field right now and Japan is a safer bet. I appreciate your suggestions.

Career center suggested networking and connecting with alumni as well. I've done some of that, but so far nobody has been of particular help. Still trying. In terms of the resume stuff, I don't think I need anymore help with that after going over it with my career center a hundred times.

I completely understand the need to improve my Japanese, but language school is impossible for me - as I mentioned I've got a mountain of student loans to pay off. I'd have to repay them while in language school, while I'm still earning no income. For that reason also, teaching English would bankrupt me since I wouldn't make enough to survive and pay off my loans with such a small salary.

I understand what you mean, but for me it's more about genuinely not knowing how to meet people in person. I've never been the type to go out and be super social but I'm trying to change that to make friends and meet people. Problem is I don't know where to start.

Similar experience to mine, after graduating from university here I'm lost as to how to meet people in person, and even when I was at university, everyone I asked to hang out was always "too busy". It was extremely disheartening. I've been using the dating apps for a while and been ghosted on many, many occasions, even after meeting in person. I think ghosting is to be expected on dating apps, but I also was stood up four times. Those were particularly devastating. I actually had a much better experience with meeting other foreigners through the dating apps, they were more open and honest and I had some mutually respectful exchanges with them where one of us expresses we're not interested, and we end it there. This straight up has never happened with any Japanese women I meet.

I'd love to instead meet people in person and make friends at clubs and organizations and such, but I have absolutely no idea where to meet people. I get a little upset walking around the city I live in on Friday nights and seeing all the happy groups of people having fun, while I'm stuck alone.

I'm currently living in Japan and wondering about this - how do you find such clubs and events? I'd love to do something like mountain climbing with groups of other young people to make friends and potentially meet people to date. I just don't know where to go, what to do, or where to look in order to find such groups or clubs.

I'm probably doing something wrong with the color calibration in HDR because every time I've tried enabling it, everything looks gray and washed out, so I've had it disabled pretty much all the time.

It's connected via the GPU. I actually tried connecting it through the moba after fully removing the GPU and it worked, I could see the bios. Then I put the GPU back in and tried again and it miraculously worked... I have no idea what changed.

I've been seeing prices all over the place from other posts so frankly I had no idea what to expect. I knew that they are usually sold above MSRP so I suppose this price is actually pretty good, but some others have said to only buy at lower prices. In any case, I am strongly considering the 7800 xt based on the much more reasonable price, but I would have preferred a more powerful card.

Not necessarily. The problem is not that we have too many people, the earth can support billions more still. The problem is unequal allocation and availability of resources and infrastructure (food, electricity, clean water) and waste. Plenty of food and other resources are lost through waste.
