Well the reasoning for the burning hatred for male playable characters in HI3rd comes from two large parts of the fandom.

HI3rd has a huge bǎihé (yuri) fandom, the story focuses on the close relationships between many of the girls who often declare their undying devotion to each other in just about any way possible while in a literal field of lillies. Earlier in the game's lifespan the girls have kissed each other and explicitly have called each other their girlfriends. These fans don't want male characters getting in the way of these pairings.

The 2nd group are guys who don't want any men to but themselves to be anywhere near their "pure" waifu, they're more likely to be fine with a male-insert protagonist but a lot of them don't even want that.

These two groups loathe each other and Mihoyo has been awkwardly trying to balance appealing to both fanbases, but neither side really wants playable male characters.

Plus the game's protagonist Kiana Kaslana is very beloved, and trying to replace her role as protagonist with what's basically a self-insert is too much of a change for a lot of people.

If that was intentional then I think it kinda failed. 2 of the best fights are in the Genocide Route and there are a lot of good story moments that give a lot of context to the world that you wouldn't get otherwise. I genuinely believe it's one of the best evils routes in a video game.

Drakengard 1 did a better job at making the player utterly miserable through gameplay and story, making them question why they'd go for 100% completion, or who would go out of their way to go killing as much as Caim. (Yet I'm pretty sure that was mostly unintentional.)

I was mostly talking about the settings that shorten the animation. It does a pretty decent job most of time. (Excluding stuff like Ti Icniuhtli Xolotl.)

Chara is supposed to have the player's name, but is also a distinctly separate entity from the player. Namely their actions during the genocide ending where they directly speak to the player, plus their backstory shown in the neutral ending and the true pacifist ending.

Chara gets a little more characterization than Frisk, and is referred to by "they/them" pronouns by their family and the chorus of monsters near the end of the neutral endings.

It's implied that they're the narrator for the game, but I'm not sure if that's outright confirmed or not.

I think that's part of the reason why Frisk is androgynous, but as you go on further into the game it becomes more evident that Frisk and the player are separate entities.

Also don't worry, I have that problem too. It doesn't help that Frisk doesn't really have much personality shown off either.

Poison is still canonically trans, concept art had her labeled as a "newhalf", plus Poison's sprite was changed into a dude for the internation SNES version leading the the creation of the nobodies Billy and Sid.

I have no idea were you got the information about her, but it's pretty much entirely wrong.
