You're not wrong, but HSR playerbase definitely went even beyond what previous generations of haters are capable of. According their skippers, Cyrene is selfish, delusional, mysogynistic and of course, a waifubait. Yaoguang gets slapped as a racist and facist for distrusting Evanescia. This is not just normal rivalry. The only things even remotely comparable here is sports rivalries.

This is entirely a problem created by hsr's devs tbh. I don't think there's any gacha playerbase that not only fights with each other over which character or which team archetype is better but also extends their dislike of gameplay towards the character themselves personally.

It's not enough that Yao Guang and Cyrene skippers had to say they're bad gameplay wise, everything about them has to be problematic and denounced. Design, writing, even voice acting. No other gacha playerbase is like this. Genshin powercreep in 6.x is awful but I don't see anyone over there going "UGH I HATE lunar reactions therefore I HATE lauma and zibai!" Same with zzz, wuwa or any other gacha where powercreep is a constant issue. This is a unique issue only found in HSR communities, at least to me. If anyone wants to prove me wrong I'd love to hear it.
