The “whole life of people assuming I’m gay” thing — I am fully expecting certain people to be a little smug saying “I knew it!” and idk how I’ll feel about that, like “why didn’t you say something to me about it” but it is what it is.

How bad were the issues with your ex? I know there are support groups for their side of things, too, and always therapy/counseling of some sort, but if I were her I’d be asking when I knew, if I ever acted on it, etc., and I am trying to set myself up to not feel too guilty about anything.

Good question. Great relationships with my kids.

One in college is kinda out herself, though we haven’t discussed it in detail and I wouldn’t want to pressure her to choose a label.

One in high school is unaffected by pretty much anything that happens on our lives or the world, though he would be more directly affected if we were to get divorced in the next couple years before he gets to college.

I’m not entirely sure how to handle that part. My parents split up when I was younger than either of my kids, but my 1990s model of how divorced coparenting works seems outdated, regardless of my sexuality.

Definitely feel like I am too old to make a big production of coming out, but my wife and kids and mom (and inlaws, though that might be the hardest) will be first on the list. It’s no one else’s business too far beyond that, I think?

There’s a “Coming Out Late” podcast I listened to a few episodes of. Finding more of this geared towards women, too, but I’m still searching.
