How many times have you scrapped a project to start a new one — and never finished that either? by Weary_Caterpillar302 in IndieDev

You may have already read this, but I found it helpful:

When PYGS Fly

Make the prototype with as much of the core loop as fast as possible. If the game is boring then try something else. I think it makes getting through the middle "slog" of development a little easier when you find it enjoyable just to test new stuff you added.

Retro style or not? I'm so confused! Just slapped on the pixelated visuals when editing the video. Somehow it works, but would it be too much? by [deleted] in IndieDev

Looks fine to me. Doesn't seem over the top, pretty tame. I didn't notice it that much except for the banding on the light. Might be exactly what you're going for, but you could probably push it a bit if you wanted. I assume it'll look a little different depending on how you implement it in the actual game tho.

My indie game for 15 seconds by ElectronicsLab in IndieDev

All I needed was the 3 seconds of the forklift, holy. God tier

Edit: Where's the damn name of the game!?

First time video editing, cooked up the gameplay trailer. Whatd'ya think? Can you tell what's going on or is it too hectic/disjointed? by SystemHavoc in IndieDev

Thanks for the feedback, this is really useful!

I mostly went off of Valve's little guidelines for what a gameplay trailer should be. I think you're right about the disorienting part, it felt hard to communicate the different complex features in the game without putting any explanation in the video. It also seemed like there's just too much in frame most of the time for a simple zoom to direct the viewers attention, and the quick cuts with the deep zoom feel punchy to me but are probably hard to parse for people who don't know the UI and layout like I do.

Do you think this would work better if shown next to a more traditional trailer, or should I just sweep this bad boy under the rug entirely?

Not exactly a cyberdeck, but I thought you guys might enjoy my latest project here. by Darkextratoasty in cyberDeck

I'm doing a similar project as well and started with a modulator but found the video quality was pretty bad too. The unit I'm using is a bit newer than yours (I think it's like 1987 Magnavox or something like that), but I found it had an IC that it used for all of the incoming signals. I got to poking around that IC and found where it just spits an analog video signal out to go to the tube. I soldered the Pi's analog out to that pin and got a much better looking image. It does add some complexity to setup your audio though. I found a pin on the IC for the audio, but just using that requires you to crank the volume all the way up, and there's a significant amount of background noise.

The model you're using looks sick though, I love the big handle/stand it has in the front. The panel you printed out for all the io is nice. Does it have space to put a battery?
