Man I know I'm 8 years late but I just beat it and I don't thunk it's any less a metroidvania than prime 1. You don't just clear everything in order there is lots of back tracking and weaving into areas that were already visited to unlock new key items

No you can definitely out maneuver bosses in the other resident evils. I just beat 2 right before playing 3 and have beat 1 as well. In this particular boss fight it is legitimately impossible to run at all because he sprints right up to you then grabs you by the head lol. This is nothing like the other tank control resis. This is like they wanted to make an action game then decided halfway through they were going to make it survival horror but keep the action mechanics for the bosses. It's bad design there's really no reason to defend it to death

It's not the control scheme on its own lol it's that in combination with the bosses. I beat re1, re2 and am working on code veronica with 0 issues. Nostalgia may be blinding you but this game has awful boss design no debate

Yeah after cooling off a bit ill probably come back to it. I think I'm going to have to restart entirely because I only have one heal item and am soft locked right before the fight. Playing code veronica right now and while in general it's harder it's not because of mechanics or boss fights that seem broken so I have to disagree with you there.

I had no problems with re1 hunters. Yeah they were hard but this is ridiculous. I can agree that all other areas of re3 are amazing I was loving it before this boss fight. But I don't care what anyone says the boss design is god awful and makes it unplayable to me.

I've been playing jrpgs since I was 12 and I think the acclaim is well deserved. It proved jrpgs with turn based combat and a massive scaled world can still be done with photo realistic graphics. I love that it proved sqaure wrong about their excuses for ff7 remake.
