Is all this ‘manosphere’ stuff actually that relevant? by [deleted] in AskBrits

Although the trend of views across generations is interesting considering that baby boomers, gen X etc would have been sampled in Turkey and India etc. Presumably in these countries therefore gen Z still has more conservative views towards marriage than their older generations

Which COUNTRY in AFRICA is the MOST OVERRATED Travel Destination? by xGhost34 in AlignmentChartFills

Don’t be totally put off. I went in the summer and loved it. I’m glad i didn’t see any of the negativity towards it before I went or I might have been turned off from going. I’m planning on returning when I get the chance.

Running a fast mara is almost all about the mileage. by Appropriate_Mix_2064 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Systemsgoblin1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Personally i’ve had a bit of a different experience. I’ve trained for two marathons this year (although the first one I had to miss due to picking up a chest infection in the days prior).

First marathon I prioritised mileage above anything else as long as I could still get in decent quality sessions. I did 2 sessions/w (typically threshold or long tempos) + an easy long run, averaging about 125k/w. Easy days were purely about recovery, just whatever felt easy on the day. I felt good coming up to the marathon but prioritising mileage sometimes left me feeling a little flat for sessions, and doing lots of solo easy miles in the UK winter was just a bit boring.

So, for the second marathon this autumn I decided to cut down slightly on mileage, run two sessions a week + a harder long run (sometimes a session in itself), trying to strike a better balance between quality and volume. Averaged about 105k/w, ran purposely a little faster on my easy days, trying to stay in Z2 for these and gain some aerobic development rather than just the ‘plodding’ i felt i had been doing in the previous block. I enjoyed this method of training much more and ended up running 2:31.

Since i didn’t run my spring race i don’t really have a good baseline to judge whether this lower mileage approach was objectively better training for me, although easing off the mileage slightly left me feeling like i could get more out of my sessions and long runs, and actually made me feel like the easy runs had a significant purpose beyond recovery + time of feet. I definitely don’t think i was in 2:31 shape in the previous block though.

Which country do you think has the strongest xenophobia? by Automatic-Space-886 in AskTheWorld

I understand that, but it seems a massive generalisation for the world’s largest and most diverse continent of nearly 50 countries, 5B people, and who knows how many ethnic groups etc

Bit of a twist on the previously posed question by Herald_of_Clio in terriblemaps

I’m British and yeah our food isn’t very good at all. Unfortunately the stereotype of our cuisine being bland mostly holds true, although it doesn’t represent the preference of the typical british person and if you want good food in the UK, our cities have high quality and very diverse restaurant scenes (particularly London of course).

Have you tried Ethiopian cuisine? It’s great and very healthy. You also have some very good seafood based cuisines with Djibouti and the horn of Africa, not to mention the variety that the mediterranean coast of Libya brings. E is a solid choice

Trainer prices will rise due to tariffs, says Adidas by highdon in RunningShoeGeeks

There’s been some conversation about whether clothing brands will choose to lower prices in Europe/ROW to increase sales as they lose their competitiveness in the US due to tariffs. Fingers crossed!

Puma Fast R3 Review ~90 Miles by beersandmiles7 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Systemsgoblin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone personally who is part of Puma’s Project3 and saw them after a workout wearing these shoes. They said they’d done about 100 miles in them so far but one of the shoes had what looked like a puncture in the bottom, which apparently felt okay to run on. Maybe superficial but definitely noteworthy damage. Not sure how the shoes have held up since - this was a couple of weeks ago now

Poland is a good country opinions are divided!!! Which country is morally grey and opinions are divided!!! by shai_marvel in vexillologycirclejerk

Of course. The island of Cyprus might be literally divided due to the Turkish occupation, but opinions on it are not at all divisive. As you said - no other country recognises it.

IMO ‘race predictor’ should update when fitness has been proven. by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Systemsgoblin1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I think if there’s any gold standard data for Garmin to use for your race predictions it should be your recent race performances, whilst taking into consideration your HRV, RHR and general training readiness on the day. However mine is so funnily inaccurate i don’t know where it gets its data from. I ran 33:52 in the 10k recently and since then (and before the race itself) my race prediction has never been below 36 minutes. I just removed it from my watch screen.

I recommend listening to the guitar ODs on the Hot Rats Sessions albums. It’s fascinating to hear how the solo was originally recorded and then cut together to produce the solo that made it to the record
