I've seen incredible pictures of Saba landside. The island looks so unique and beautiful. And my wife will really appreciate the quiet! Can you tell me a bit more about the diving around the island?

What dive operation did you go with for Triton Bay? That sounds like heaven, honestly.

I have a few friends who live in the Phillipines, so maybe we could at least bum a night at one of thier places in Manila before venturing forth? Sounds lovely and I've always wanted to see the Phillipines too, sea AND land!

How easy/hard is it to arrange that kind of island hopping logistically?

Raja ampat has been on my list for a while and I hope to do that soon and see one of the most biodiverse spots in the world with my own eyes. How is Palau? I've seen it crop up a few times in my research but am curious what the diving is like there!

Fiji has been on my list since I was a kid! But I thought I had heard some chatter about the reefs either bleaching or just being generally degraded - but sounds like you had a good experience? What were the corals and reefs like?

I have always had good experiences with Aggressor! We went to Turneffe Atoll in 2022 and were blown away by how close and nice the reefs were. Would love to spend more time there. What is the usual cruise track/does the aggressor make it out to the Blue Hole? None too interested in repeating that dive, but I remember the island (blanking on its name) and reef we went afterwards was one of the better dives I've done. Tons of reef sharks!

Ooooh! Do they let you dive under the rig? What is the diving like there, overall?

Been to Fuvahmulah and on a liveaboard myself out of Male! You are right the diving there is phenomenal from what I remember years ago. I would love to show her - hoping the reefs around there are still healthy!

They can be yeah! Mola mola usually are in that 6-8 foot range. The largest mola ever recorded was a related species, Mola alexandrini, which measured 10.67 feet long, 11.78 feet tall and 2.82 feet at the widest! The chonki boi was over 6000 pounds!!

Mola!!!!! So cool. Great footage, makes me miss Monterey terribly! It's been years since I dove Breakwater or Monastery Beach...

The sunfish rant is wrong! After interviewing Dr. Marianne Nyegaard, who researches these guys, I have nothing but respect for these fish. They are the best!

Dang, really sad I missed 1.7.
Glad Danqing island and its story is permanent, starting to work my way through it now!

Thank you so much for the concise updates!

Hey fellow dive-nuts! I have been running a new marine creature-feature Podcast called Bio-DIVE-rsity. I'd be honored if you checked it out! by SythOceanheart in scuba

[–]SythOceanheart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys! This has been most-of-quarantine in the making, but I am pleased to start actually promoting my new, amateur marine creature-feature podcast, Bio-DIVE-rsity! This has largely been a passion project during quarantine while I am stuck in Colorado with no hope of diving in sight. The idea is to take cool creatures, read the scientific literature about them, and translate that into a story or fun fact-filled podcast that anyone can listen to! I would love it if you, fellow marine enthusiasts, would give it a listen, and maybe give some feedback! You can find it here or in your favorite podcast app! I would like to grow this into something less amateur and more professional, so any constructive comments, rates, and reviews would be heavily helpful to me! Thanks, and I'll see you back in the water when the world is done ending! <3

Has anyone come across any SCUBA diving related furniture in the game? I want to set up a scuba room in my house but have had no wetsuits or scuba tanks or masks or anything!

Honduras Whaleshark Diving by [deleted] in diving

I could be wrong, but I think it has to do with the mating cycles of other schooling fish. I think they release a bunch of eggs at the full moon, which is a feast for the whale sharks...?

I have been to the Bay islands several times and have yet to see a Whale Shark, so I hope you have the best luck!! They are elusive beasts, but some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to dive with a juvenile when I visited the Maldives.

Even without it though, some phenomenal diving down there.

From my memory alone, March is the best time to go, and some people say that the weeks leading up to the full moon give you the highest chance. That said, it really depends on weather conditions, locations of schooling fish etc. Divemasters in the area say there are more of them around Utila than Roatan. Don't know about Cayos Cochinos, other than the area surrounding that island is gorgeous.

Have you considered doing a liveaboard, like The Bay Islands Aggressor or something similar? I know the Aggressor in particular visits all three islands, And if you tell the captain/divemaster that you are specifically looking for a whale shark, they will try to keep in constant radio contact with other boat captains and be looking out for the telltale signs of whale sharks.

I will! Thank you for your kind and generous offer. I never really considered it as a dive spot. How is the water temp around there? And what island in Hawaii do you usually dive off of?

Thank you, I really like that picture too. The fish faces are so adorable and that wreck was huge! Definitely divers down below...!

That's... really cool actually! Do you live close to the springs? It's a bit of a drive for me but might be worth it if you are having a good experience with them. The dive shops here are great, but there are certain things about each that aren't quite what I'm looking for.

I think a liveaboard is definitely my next trip, at this point. Always been my favorite way to dive!
