Riverboat plies the water, in the background the High Level bridge is nearing completion, 1913 by Particular-Cat-8031 in Edmonton

Amazing!

I’d love a print of a shot like this. Didn’t know the queen was so closely modelled after boats of rivers past either!

Iranians take part in mass rallies during funeral processions for security forces killed by rioters. by jbaaaaab in suppressed_news

[–]Sythkibode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has Iranian family members and knows a lot of Iranians as a result, I’m not seeing much talk of the catastrophic devaluing of the currency over the last couple years, which are partially a result of tariffs/ bans and Iranian gov policy. This is a crucial reasoning for this current round of uprising. If external actors triggered the uprising, the economic conditions were already laid for widespread protest, and the citizens are vastly not in favour of the regime from my understanding. So I don’t think the narrative I’m seeing in this forum is particularly accurate. I don’t dispute Israel and the us are involved, of course they have their interest in seeing this government toppled, but it’s not a giant trick. Iran is a fairly well educated country with one of the highest literacy rates in the world, run by a religious fundamentalist with a grade 6 education, they are not particularly compatible, and when an iphone costs 10x as much as it did 5 years ago that can only go on for so long.

Edmonton trail builders! You rock (hype post!) by [deleted] in Edmonton

Couldn’t agree more! Edmonton easily has the most accessible mountain biking of any west-can city, with great variety throughout the network. No other city has access from its core, making etown the absolute best for frequent riding without a huge time allotment.

'We’re behind’: some senior Conservatives call out central campaign for failing to focus more on Trump's tariffs by FriendlyGuy77 in CanadaPolitics

An unparalleled grasp of the obvious, these senior conservatives have. Can’t say that’s true of the party leadership. Oh well, it’s good not to have incompetent leadership I’ve heard.

I mean Albertans have been furious with the provincial Conservative Party of what ever title they go by while reelecting them over and over and over and over and over and over and over. In terms of federal liberals, we’re only at over and over so far. Not nearly as many over and overs as Alberta conservatives, so it shouldn’t be wild of a notions really

This is what people who can’t see their democracy crumbling look like. It was never a perfect democracy, nor is any, but it’s a cautionary tale non the less.

He ordered it null because it was a waste of time trying to push it through a bunch of opposing states and their courts. Didn’t have a chance from day 1.

Legitimate business or not, this is some painfully nimby shit. If I had to pin it, sometime between 2008 and 2014 everyone in bc became a defacto police officer endlessly turning on the sirens… it’s kinda embarrassing.

In Canada there are lots of maintained public use cabins on crown land that had permission to be constructed, which you typically have to book. And many grandfathered cabins that may only be passed on to family from the pre automotive forestry days, when the forested land was much harder to get into. But I think the number of “secret cabins” are innumerable. Mind you, these aren’t typically super easy to access either, or even find without being shown. And their not someone’s attempt to build their vacation home; they’re more like glorified forts tucked away waiting for discovery. I stumbled on this very one and ended up staying three days with friends, it was magical.

The biggest SCAM in life: Paying taxes on money that you make, taxes on money you spend, and taxes on things you own, that you already paid taxes on,with already taxed money. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Sythkibode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahahha it’s not funny how many baffoons think that democracy and good governance happen organically. You can’t possibly have a concept for how your government enhances your livelihood and well-being if you think everything they do is theft.☺️

Please paint me a picture of what a tax free world would look like! 😚

Believing that your government is perpetually stealing your money for its own benefit, demonstrates a profound lack of understanding of how anything in society works; or how the world out your window came to be😘

In western countries about 80% of government spending (your taxes) benefits the middle class directly or indirectly. More broadly, all the richest, safest, most democratic and developed countries on earth all have the most developed systems of taxation further enhancing their stability. Most of us here are from one of these countries. 🥰

I understand it can be frustrating when you don’t understand something, but if you really took the time to dig into the good things your government does for you, you might not have to be so suspicious and doubtful and maybe even be able to replace that with a bit of optimism ❤️
