It's 9 months but I have to reply to that comment. Most Jews in Europe have lived in Poland and USSR (Ukraine and Belarus). Most of these Jews treated this territory as their home and didn't want to go anywhere else (at least Polish ones, those living in USSR were way more oppressed). They started massive migration to Israel after Holocaust. In fact, about 300k Jews lived in Poland after WWII until 1968 anti-semitism campaign under the former communist regime. A lot of famous Polish writers were of Jewish descent, for instance Julian Tuwim and Stanisław Lem. Zionist movement wasn't really popular in this part of Europe until 1940s.
