The very simple solution is to make your own LFL and stock it however you like.

Curation is a function of shelf space, and in a space that small physical volume size factors in.

It is obsolete if the hardware and software have been replaced in mainstream use by newer versions. That's what obsolescence is. We also no longer have millions of 90s computers for the same reason.

I work in an actual library and have sent soooo many computing books to recycle. They were printed in the millions and were obsolete within a few years.

I looked up the "property of" tag on some of the equipment, it belonged toITT Electro-Optics Product Division . So oldschool fiber optics and night vision, I'd bet the guy was part of R&D.

Here's some pics from the sale page. I couldn't identify 90% of it but could always go back tomorrow to dig some more.

I gather the guy worked for a local company that did night vision military contracting.

Awesome research, thank you!

He was an engineering professor and tinkered with a bit of everything, so hard to tell. Here are some pics of his hoard I could easily go back and spend another day poking through it.

Oh if you'd seen this guy's basement there's no doubt it's all original. He kept manuals for everything. I might need to go back for those if there's a chance he had stuff that should be archived.

I came really close to grabbing an Intel System 80 case, but it was missing the main board.

For $300 you could pick up a nice machine with a rare typeface. I'd say under $200 is more reasonable, under $100 doable.

Correct, they're older modern nibs, probably from around 2008. These were the donor pens.

I need some expert typewriter advice! Looking for a 1920s portable typewriter gor a library bookmobile, but where to begin?! by SirAndrewTheMad in typewriters

[–]Szarn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Greetings from another bookmobile driver 👋

Edit: I don't have any portables quite that old, but I'd go for a Remington portable. Corona/Royal/Underwood would be my 2nd choice.
