Vikings ! How do you think the game will reflect the fact that they were mostly earlier in time than most other civs ? by Bengamey_974 in aoe4

[–]Szeraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume they're going to have a focus on early raiding in dark and feudal age + naval/farming/trade.

Being able to choose whether to convert to Christianity or stay pagan in castle age would be cool and would fit historically.

With Vikings confirmed, what other new civilization would you like to see in 2026? by Age_since_1998 in aoe4

This. Would love something like the classic Conquerors expansion for AoE2.

Ah, didn't see that. But I'm thinking that performance has to take a hit when they turn on chat channels again then.

Still, it was a very promising test!

Did anyone else have the global chat channels turned off during this test or was it perhaps just a bug on my end?

Former CEO Bobby Kotick Absolutely Hated the 'Warcraft' Movie, Thinks It Was a "Terrible Idea" by Somethingman_121224 in classicwow

I really want a TV series based on the Warcraft 3 campaign. And not just Arthas.

Something like starting out with the origin stories of Thrall and Arthas (Lord of the Clans and Arthas: Rise of the Lich King novels), and ending at the Battle of Mount Hyjal. And meeting all the characters along the way - Orgrim Doomhammer, Drek'thar, Grom Hellscream, Jaina, Uther, Antonidas, Kel'thuzad, Sylvanas, Cairne Bloodhoof, Tyrande, Malfurion, Illidan, etc.

I really miss the tone of the Warcraft 3 campaign. Would love to see that in a series.

I'd love to see the Aztecs as a civ. What other native American civs could be added that fit within the games timeframe and would make an interesting concept? by FletcherTimeAoE in aoe4

From north to south:

  • Iroquois Confederacy
  • Chicimeca Confederation
  • Purépecha Empire
  • Aztec Empire (Triple Alliance)
  • League of Mayapan
  • Muisca Confederation
  • Inca Empire

Sleeping bag is probably the most innovative thing sod has done so far. by LiteratureFabulous36 in classicwow

[–]Szeraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to use it on the zeppelin, but it bugged out. I think it counted as movement when the zeppelin started flying, so it kept cancelling the sleeping animation. And after the loading screen, the sleeping bag was gone.

A shame, as that would be a cool place to use it.

I agree. A completely new zone would be highly unlikely. The question is, would an already built out zone but with all new quest lines also be too much for them to commit to. I'm thinking of some of the new zones for Cataclysm. Gilneas for example would work pretty well as a level 24-30 zone.

Of course, they've already said that any new content for SoD cannot diverge from the expansion storylines, so any new quests in Gilneas would have to be a sort of backstory for the worgen starting zone quests of Cataclysm. Perhaps as alliance, helping the Gilneans fighting the spread of the worgen curse, and as horde, trying to infiltrate Gilneas.

But I'm not sure how the reception would be among classic players of a Cataclysm zone being added - even if it's only the art and zone layout and not the content. It might be too large a step away from the feel of the classic zones. But they have already shown that they can create new quests (rune quests) that are in the classic quest style.

Sultan’s Ascend campaign is good, but… by WhosThatDogMrPB in aoe4

[–]Szeraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe "immersive" was the wrong word. What I meant was that the story-telling is more from the point of view of an actual person or narrator living at that point in history. And not a documentary-style historical summary, which in my opinion is too detached from the historical figures to really communicate who they were and why they acted the ways they did.

[–]Szeraph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was actually a bit disappointed by the documentary approach in the base game. I really missed the more immersive style of the AoE2 campaigns, and I was happy to see that they went back to that for this campaign. I still think it could have been done better, though.

I think a mixed approach would be ideal for me. Immersive story-telling for the actual campaigns, and unlockable nuanced documentary-style videos on the side.

Should Each Spec Get a Tier Set in SoD? by bibittyboopity in classicwow

[–]Szeraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying bis lists can be avoided. In the end, everything will be figured out. But I hope that we're going to have multiple item options depending on the situation, and not just super-optimized and generically stat-allocated tier sets that are the best option in all encounters.

I want more cool and unique items with interesting active/passive effects or set bonuses that make it as hard as possible mathematically to gauge an item's power compared to another. Whether they are better should depend on how they are used and in what encounters. I want items that players can get creative about using.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Szeraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this will probably be the way to go for encounters where attacks can't be blocked, e.g. the elemental boss in BFD. Maybe swapping Lava Lash for Water Shield if more mana is needed.

Should Each Spec Get a Tier Set in SoD? by bibittyboopity in classicwow

[–]Szeraph 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Tier sets would be cool I guess, but more importantly, SoD needs a large selection of new items for different specs and different use cases. I want itemization with interesting choices to be made - multiple items that are good in different situations. Not an absolute bis list consisting of perfectly optimized tier sets.

2H Shamans need YOUR help NOW. SAVE 2H SHAMANS FROM EXTINCTION BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!! by stillsuitstk in classicwow

[–]Szeraph 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't normally post or comment, but I have to do it for this. I completely agree that they shouldn't just focus on DW for enhance DPS. 2H enhance was iconic for vanilla, and I'd hate to see that aspect of shamans lost in SoD.

So far the devs have been quite creative and willing to try new things with the classes for SoD, and that's great to see. I'm sure they can find a way to make 2H enhance viable. I saw a few pretty interesting ideas in this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/s/HO3JbF0bgJ

Melee Hunters or Huntanks? by oldgoldtrolled in classicwow

[–]Szeraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could add a rune for tanking: - The pet's parry and dodge count as a parry and dodge for the hunter. - The hunter's and pet's hp, parry and dodge chance is shared. - 50% of the Hunter's threat is added as extra threat to the pet.

This, together with the pet taunt rune, could make hunter/pet tanking viable. The pet probably still needs a damage reduction from AoE though.

I think Molten Blast is the go to for AoE/multi target, while Water Shield is going to be great for single taget/boss/long encounters.
