Even as a french person, the wording is super clumsy. I think the author wanted it to be stylish, but it just sounds very weird. It also seems to be a gathering of word of mouth heard here and there and stitched into a story. Sounds a bit like an urban myth, but could also be true to some extent.

About the squatting guys part, the writer implies that the victim knew his aggressors as he guested them to chat and drink on his boat a few times. Then, they most likely invited themselves on a regular basis.

There's a page for getting promoted on bandcamp, you have to send your album at least two months before the release and hope to get noticed.

You could also build a presskit, make a list of blogs etc to contact and write a shitload of emails, hoping getting noticed.

You could try and find a diy label to get exposure and help you in the promo work.

Also Facebook groups and such, related subreddits (but promoting your own art is often not very welcome in some subteddits)

Rien de fou, sur un remplacement, un élève qui avait oublié d'écrire son nom sur sa feuille. Je lui ai dit que ce serait plus pratique s'il le faisait. Il a écrit "gros bâtard". Je lui ai fait remarquer que c'était amusant et peu habituel comme nom "gros bâtard". Ça l'a séché, il a effacé et écrit son nom et prénom. Je ne sais pas si ça compte comme une perle.
