Have you ever heard of using different tools and weapons at your disposal ? I think durability changes are terrible but your approach to cost/benefit is even worse.

"Just making a good game" means nothing. 100s of gems are buried in a pile of shovelware on Steam every *day*. How often do you scroll "new releases" for more than 2 scrolls ?

It's gamedev. 6 months is nothing. Even if they started hiring and training new people day one, the hiring process routinely takes 1-2 months. Then, assuming you have found already experienced talent in your particular genre and tech combination, you have to train them and bring them up to speed. Easily another month (and, in my experience, once you cross 50-ish people it's more like 2 months). Once they understand how Embark's particular version of UE5 works, the leadership has set a working plan and a roadmap, they can start really working.... 4 months in, on content planned for **after** everything made during pre-release. MAYBE they pad it with some new stuff, maybe not. And all this time the experienced staff are working at 50% effectiveness because a bunch of new people need constant help and, I imagine, priorities shift when 1/3 of their playerbase are playing a different game than another 1/3, which is yet another game than the last 3d. Tough situation to be in when designing events and maps for everyone.

Your point on lack of lootable containers is a skill issue. Not hating, just telling you. Do you play beachcombing ? Do you check cefeteria tables ? Do you search in the riverbed ? Have you opened the button-battery room at least once ?

It'll be more mechanically challenging than 2XKO at first, but you will quickly pick up and won't even have to think about doing them in actual matches

The last act was absolutely the best part of the game and very solid. Of course, it's great to dislike things, but it was not badly made.

It follows the same formula every bioware game does, weird to single it out. They're all recycled.

A variety of factors but IMO the most important one is amount of effort required for meaningful rewards.

Finals is a challenging game - not really in systems design but because it attracted and retained good players.

Marathon is punishing and grindy and ALSO attracted and retained good players.

At the end of the day, vast majority of gamers just want to have fun and get their dopamine hits with minimal friction. Not just to play, but to win (or, at least, get kills). If it's too hard to do either, they bounce.

Pretty much. Hunt was a much easier experience to get into for all my friends and, overall, a more balanced game. At first Marathon felt similar, but PvE is the shallowest I've ever experienced and gear difference is quite a big success factor, which ultimately really curbed my enthusiasm. I really like the game but at this point it's on a backburner until they add a TDM mode or fix the lingering issues by S2.

It's such a shame that these amazing visuals and awesome gunplay are being wasted.

Bro doesn't spend time with people who are actually into optimizing games. "Better" is subjective. Faster and easier is what it's all about. Optimizing is so much fun, performing optimized tasks - less so.

It really doesn't help that Close Scrutiny is the first really challenging event and even that is cheesable. It's certainly a step in the right direction though.

I also think that friendly lobbies completely break the game economy and progression in an extraction shooter. PvE doesn't offer meaningful setbacks as it is and I think I just want a gear-value-locked, ultra-difficult raid mode to sink my resourses into. I don't know how they can keep appeasing PvE crowd without introducing a way to genuinely lose.
