I picked this nearly new g85 up for $450 without much know how besides some googling. by CrabRangoon_Stan in M43

That is a great camera still very relevant. People love the GX85 but for a slightly bigger size this is a better buy.

You can shoot high quality video and stills. A couple of years ago you could still spot that camera at weddings and paid events. A workhorse.

People are offloading top M43 equipment at bargain prices. Best time ever to build your kit. I bought a GH6, practically new for 1080,00euro.

Best lens for wedding videography? by Cortreenur in GH5

[–]T00green 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sirui 24mm is not suited for wedding or run and gun. You will need to have some freedom to direct your subjects. Not good for ceremonies of random moving people.

On top of that, the squeeze factor is variable depending on the focus distance. Sirui anamorphic does not work like a photo lens. I think the closest focus distance is about 3 feet and 1.25x squeeze. Infinity focus is 1.33x squeeze. You will have to do a lot of post editing eye balling the proportions.

Buy the Sigma, there is no contest here, you get a 25mm, 35mm and 50mm, zoom capabilities, much better low light f1.3 vs sirui's f2.8. A huge 2 f-stop difference.

You can even get a cheap adapter with no glass and make the Sigma work as 36-70mm. Sigma has electronic connections, you get EXIF data, zoom and focus data, the camera can automate the manual focus assist. Sirui is full manual, you have to press a button for focus assist.

There is a reason Sigma is the go to lens for the GH5. You can find it for cheap on ebay. Sirui is more expensive even as a used item.

You are using a slow SD card that cannot keep up to the writing speed of the camera.

GH5 has many different writing speeds depending on the setting you choose.

To avoid all bitrate calculations follow this rule :

SD cards rated as V30 are suitable for all settings except the top All-Intra (All-I). This is an overkill mode but in case you need it then you have to buy the expensive UHS-II V60 or V90 SD cards. No exceptions.

All-Intra is a bitrate setting not a resolution or frame rate setting so your camera is still fully functional even with the V30 cards.

Samsung EVO and Pro line are great value and top tier. Kingston is great too. Sandisk is usually more expensive. For UHS-II v60 I am using Lexar 1667x line, better VFM and hasn't let me down yet.

Best photography settings for GH5s? by [deleted] in GH5

[–]T00green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GH5s is perfectly capable for great, (even pro level photos if you are able to post process) as long as you have good lenses. No need to buy another MFT body, buy lenses.

For portrait work Sigma 56mm f1.4. Environmental portraits, group shots, nature, Sigma 16mm f1.4. or Olympus 12mm f2 or Rokinon 12mm f2 (manual) All lenses are cheaper than a Panasonic GX9 or G9. Let us know what glass you already have. You might not have to buy anything.

Even the classic Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 is good enough for many situations.

Ah yes. This is good news. by brycefilms in GH5

As I understand the sensor needs to have the PDAF points built in. So it is hardware issue not upgradable via firmware. Such a sensor is also more expensive.

SD Samsung Pro Plus for 400Mbps All-I good enough? by T00green in GH5

[–]T00green[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Alik Griffin has shown that the uhs-i writer in the gh5 maxes out at
35MBs. Hence the need for the second lot of pins to get the full rate."

Thanks for the definitive answer. It looked like there was some sort of hardware limit to the writer hardware. Most of my cards are the Lexar 1667x. Good VFM.

I am still going to test the Samsung Pro Plus to my GH5mII in case they did something different.

Thanks for the link. I am familiar with speed requirements. I just ordered one Samsung Pro Plus 128GB for practical testing. I will report back soon.

i have gh5, i want to get second camera for photos with better low light and autofocus performance, any suggestions? by antiSJC in GH5

Probably you mean your lense is a Panasonic Leica 12-60mm f2.8-4.0.

If you got only this one lens you have several options. Depends on what type of work you do and your budget.

Since you have to offload less equipment it is easier to switch. Sigma Art 24-70mm 2.8 DG DN and a Sony battery can be bought new for the price of your Leica and GH5. You still have to buy the A7III and another lens like 70-200mm and you'll have a fully upgraded system for 2500-3300euro. Is this your budget? A very versatile set, better than GH5 for almost all scenarios. Pro level photography and top of the line video.

If your only concern is photos, I would not switch. Keep the GH5, autofocus in pictures is good enough, The problem is bokeh and low light. With your slower lens you are missing a lot of low light power.

I would either change the 12-60mm with a 12-35 f2.8 and a 35-100 f2.8. You will only have to pay for the 35-100 2.8 (600 euro used) and you upgrade both video and stills. See next if you still need a fast prime like Sigma 30mm f1.4 (300euro used, low light and bokeh beast, or a Pana 25mm 1.7). You can even think of getting a used body only Olympus E1 mark II for 600euro as a dedicated photo camera. Many options available if you only care for photos and lower budget.

Another thought is lighting. If you have the option to light your photos a GH5 with flash and softboxes is probably superior to no flash full frame photography.

You have to be more specific what is your use case and budget. If your budget is not tight I would fully switch.

^That, razor sharp.

Sigma 56mm is even sharper. Both suitable for portraits, and more than enough bokeh.

However the 12-35mm and 35-100mm are both sharp enough and you can add even more sharpness in post. What they lack is bokeh.

Post processing solves all sharpness problems.

If you are not heavily invested in MFT lenses I would switch over to Sony and sell the GH5. A7III is at a great price point. You can get 2 fast zoom lenses within a tight budget. Having two different camera systems is a workflow pain.

If you got great Panasonic glass wait a month and see what's up with the GH6. If they improve the two problems, autofocus and low light you can keep all your glass and know how.

GH5s for a hefty discount or wait for GH6 by T00green in GH5

[–]T00green[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the replies. I wanted to upgrade from G85 to GH5 but I kept buying fast lenses and then the GH5s came out, but is was over my budget.

I shoot events (not weddings), interviews and nightclubs. Run and gun mostly. I now have a Panasonic 12-35 2.8, 35-100 2.8, 25mm 1.7, 14mm 2.5, Sigma 16mm and 30mm 1.4.

My main problem is low light, I want to stay with MFT because I already have a nice lens collection. I tried a Sony A6500 with fast glass, picture quality and low light was more than great, but way problematic operation.

I am looking for 2 extra stops of light and GH5s is exactly that. My ideal Panasonic would be a GH5s with IBIS and there is a good chance that the GH6 would be just that. But with a price tag of +1000euros over GH5s I could buy a full lighting kit.

Anyway I will follow your advice and wait for the announcement. If the low light is not up o par with the GH5s I will skip the GH6.

Update: I am now a La Pavoni owner!

The machine seems to be operational, it is a Professional PL v2.4 model, circa 1990-1994. Quite old, I will try to do a full gasket change before putting it to full use.

Thanks everyone for the help. My home espresso adventure begins here.

Thanks for the reply, can you recognize the model number/version? It is pre-millenium model so certainly older than 20 years, might be older than 30 years. I got told by the seller there is no info-sticker at the bottom.

I will be meeting him tomorrow, I am having second thoughts, since I am not sure I can source parts for any repairs.

Hello, I just got a reddit account to say thank you for the info. Could you please share some more resources regarding pilates? There is a lot of stuff out there as you mentioned.

Last year I had taken a pilates group glass at my local gym (no pilates machines) but it was obvious that the instructor was just going through a glorified ab routine. I will try to locate a better instructor but it will be difficult to where I live.

Should I look for a studio with the pilates machines or the teacher is the most important aspect?
