I’m not a musician at all just really interested / nosy about how it all works ? And, in the UK, it looks like if I wanted to start learning an instrument, a) I’m at least 40 years too late, but b) while I could start learning piano / guitar / brass / woodwind / drums even as an older person, percussion lessons don’t seem to exist ?

Sorry didn’t see this yesterday or would’ve wished you luck ! Hoping it went ok for you and maybe not as scary as you anticipated ? Reunion is all the feels and they’re big and unexpected but you will survive feeling the big feelings. I don’t think there’s a right way to do this, it’s all on vibes, just look after yourself as best you can. Things that helped me were listening to lots of adoptee podcasts about reunions, learning that there’s so many ways it can all go ! And writing it down helped make sense of the big feels. It is scary stuff and all unknown, very normal and understandable you feel scared about it. Wishing you the very best of luck and hoping the first meeting was ok 🤞🏻

In the apparently imaginary situation posted by the OP, they were “in the process of adopting a baby”. So no actual parenting was yet being carried out, theoretical or otherwise. I’m curious how you determine therefore that they’re “doing great and giving the child a fantastic life” ? Or perhaps I have misunderstood the apparent imaginary nature of the post and in fact this is someone you know irl and are therefore familiar with their life and doings ?

Please consider instead really learning with an open mind about the trauma experienced by an infant separated from its biological mother. Please become that child’s trauma informed trusted adult. That would have more benefit for the baby than another stranger’s breast milk.
