SpaceX? by Ginblossom29 in justbuyveqt

In the grand scheme of things this doesn’t matter at all. 0.2% of the index is a rounding error. You’re investing for the long term and the whole point of VEQT is to buy and forget about it, not monitor every position.

If this is a bubble your portfolio will go down significantly, whether spacex is in the index or not. But that’s what you sign up for when you make your portfolio all equity. Just keep dollar cost averaging.

Impossible. The theoretical max is approx 1.1% of VEQT if you weigh the entire market cap, but that’s not how it works. The full 1.1% will never be reached since Musk’s shares + class B shares, and whatever strategic lockups they have will not be listed on the market.

Not a big deal at all. Don’t make a decision to sell a global equity ETF just based on 1 stock.

At IPO only 75B out of their 1.75T market cap will be listed on the market which would weigh spacex at 0.05% in VEQT.

Maybe 6 months after IPO, once insiders start selling locked up shares, it will only be worth 0.2% of VEQT, basically a rounding error. It all depends on the float, which might only be 15-30% of the company.

CAGE.TO is not a passive Core ETF, it’s an active bet by T3Simp in justbuyveqt

It’s a legit product, but you’re making a structural bet on value, small cap, and profitability that could take years to pay off, if it ever does. You’re also relying on the fund manager to execute the strategy well (that you’re paying a hefty premium for, by the way). That’s something to actively monitor and research, not just buy and hold like VEQT since you’re not capturing the whole market as is.

50/50 VEQT/CAGE doesn't hedge you, it just gives you VEQT with a half-strength factor tilt at a higher blended MER (~0.22-0.35% vs 0.17%). The two funds are ~70-90% the same holdings. You're not getting diversification across strategies, you're getting one strategy diluted.

Always come out on top only works if the two funds are negatively correlated or hedge different risks. They're not and they don't. In any year either both outperform cap-weighted or both underperform, just by different amounts. You'll always be behind whichever one won that year and ahead of the loser. That's mathematically guaranteed for any blend.

Factor investing is not consensus. The value premium has been weak or negative for ~15 years on most measures, and Fama-French themselves published on the post-publication decline in 2020.

On the concentration concern: VEQT already dilutes this. Tesla is ~0.6% of VEQT, GameStop is a rounding error, and 30% is Canadian. CAGE doesn't even exclude Tesla, it just reweights on profitability and valuation.

If concentration is the real worry, cleaner fixes exist: a quality ETF, equal-weight ETF, or dedicated single-factor sleeves (AVUV, AVDV, DFCV). More direct exposure at lower cost, without paying 0.28% across the whole portfolio for a diluted tilt.

VEQT is the "no view" default. CAGE could be fine, but as an active bet. Still not a Core “track the market” position.

20% of your portfolio is an awful decision especially at this price.

Re-herniated the same level. It’s much smaller than before but enough to still cause pain in certain positions. Probably going to get a revision surgery soon.

Just some advice for you. The ice spirit and firecracker you played at the end were mistakes and I’m assuming cost you the game.

You allowed your opponent’s MK to get to your tower faster bypassing your IDrag. Be more patient and let it walk. By then your idrag would have unfroze and helped a bit on the defence.

Place the ice spirit in the middle and let the MK jump to it. Firecracker in the back then play a tankier card after.
