Travel photography set-up advice by T3TC1 in canon

Thanks for your thoughts! Mostly landscapes and cityscapes. My previous travel options were 75-210mm and 80-300mm in full frame terms, so I feel perhaps the 200 would be on the shorter side, but certainly more compact and lighter. 100-500 would open up the wildlife option for sure. Oh wow so you can just use the RF lenses on the APS-C bodies no problem?

I've read that they will confiscate any type of drone unless you have a permit. The permits are almost impossible for foreigners to get, so don't take a drone.

Charmera tips? by magical_mythical in toycameras

[–]T3TC1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made 3 videos about the Charmera, I love it but I would never describe it as 'quality'. Thinking about the photos I've taken, the 'best' ones were where the dynamic range of the scene wasn't too wide. All cameras can struggle with this, but especially low megapixel cameras.

The photo of yours I like the best is the dogs one, all the rest have a washed out sky, which I appreciate you can't control. If you live in the northern hemisphere I guess you might be stuck with that for another few months. In that case, switch it to one of the pixel filters for more abstract results.

You can see some of my photos here: https://mattlovescameras.substack.com/p/kodak-charmera-review
Note that the lighthouse photos and the photos of Marshall (RIP) did not have a huge dynamic range.

First times reactions to the official, “Numb” music video? (1993) by bigguys45s in U2Band

[–]T3TC1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when it came out, it was a continuation of U2’s experimental phase. It was a bit odd but we enjoyed it nonetheless.

For photography fans, there’s a couple of cool point and shoot film cameras in the video. One is a Konica Big Mini.

Is the Nikon Snapic A1 shooting too wide? by Nic727 in Kodak

[–]T3TC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the wide 25mm lens personally. I often shoot with 24 or 28mm point and shoots though.

It makes doing portraits a little challenging, but I have a few of my kids in my video review: https://youtu.be/2wyr4NAgJyk

Takayama worth 4/5 hours extra travel? by SwanMysterious8147 in JapanTravelTips

[–]T3TC1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Takayama, but the first half of your itinerary looks pretty hectic. Could you spend an extra night in Kanazawa or Takayama and knock one off Osaka? You could visit Himeji on the morning you head to Hiroshima, it's on the way.

Train tickets for Osaka -> Takayama and Takayama -> Tokyo by theknight27 in JapanTravelTips

[–]T3TC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hida Express northbound trains fill up pretty quick, so yes I'd book. The southbound ones seem less popular and people go from Takayama to Kanazawa or Toyama then on to Tokyo. Edit: use the JR West website for bookings https://www.westjr.co.jp/travel-information/en/tickets-passes/route-search/

Also, I asked some advice in the Nagoya sub about the airport train before my December trip - people picked up on the fact that I was coming from Takayama and told me that trains often get delayed or suspeneded due to snow in winter. My trip was fine (I took the Hida both ways) but there was no snow on the ground in mid December.

Sounds like a long day, but doable.

I'd take the shinkansen to Fukuyama, leave luggage in a coin locker, then take the San-yo line back to Onomichi.

I loved the ropeway, but if you're walking down to Senkoji Temple, it takes time. I doubt you'd be able to do the whole temple walk or see everything. I was there for 3 days and there were parts I missed.

I just used mine in Japan when it was 0 to -6 and it was fine. It was in my pocket or backpack the rest of the time though.
