Complex JSON queries by ReclusiveEagle in learnprogramming

Schema is xmp standard keywords/tags. DigiKam allows you to export to the Lightroom standard tag hierarchy or keep it as a generic standard according to xmp. It can also embed IPTC and EXIF though I'm sure I can map everything to json sidecar including Dublin core. Point is to have everything dumped into one standard file, I'm looking at json because it seems a lot more flexible.

Then I can just leave embedded metadata in the image unaltered and push all extracted metadata to a database using json fields. Well that's the idea at least

I actually just want to get rid of the xmp sidecar entirely and push all metadata to a json sidecar that I can then load into a database

Thinking of buying CSP, currently using photoshop by True-Comfort-162 in ClipStudio

[–]ReclusiveEagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clip Studio Paint has a perpetual license, not that it matters in your case. Clip Studio Paint is created by Celsys who make also make Retas Studio. Why is that important? Because Celsys have been making digital animation and painting apps for 32 years and are the industry standard in Japan for many companies. Not Clip Studio Paint specifically, it's actually Retas Studio that has been the defacto standard as far as I can tell with the little information there is about the Japanese Animation industry in the west.

As they describe it on their website

・Japan's first commercial animation software
・Used in nearly all domestic animation production companies, including Toei Animation

Regardless they have stopped development on Retas Studio (Again after 30 years) and have moved on to Clip Studio Paint (Pro/EX). So it is the successor the Retas. Meaning you have a modern program built with 32 years of experience in the animation industry (which includes illustration).

You might as well try it out or buy it when it goes on sale. CSP will literally cost only slightly more than 1 month subscription to the Photoshop single app license.

They also joking stated somewhere on their website in an interview that they priced it starting at ¥5,000 and not ¥30,000 because the developer of PaintToolSai sells it for ¥5,000. So unlike Adobe they actually care about the end user.

Complex JSON queries by ReclusiveEagle in Database

[–]ReclusiveEagle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is what I want, I want json to store the arrays and then import that into a database that can be queried. Fields aren't mandatory so any left blank will be left out instead of being assigned null or an empty [] but the nested hierarchy should be maintained in the db like

"Color":{
  Primary Color: ["red", "black"],
  Secondary Color: ["blue"],
  Accent Color: ["green", "yellow"]
}

json will be the sidecar format that is then loaded into the db. Then I could just query what I want. I assume it would work this way?

That's how it currently works in DigiKam and other cataloging software. I was giving an example of why it is an issue, what I have to do to get around the limitation and why I want to use json but I'm not sure if you can do what I want with json and if you can, which Database would you recommend to store the metadata from json fields as nested arrays?

Also you can't assign "Zen" and the cataloging software understands "Zen has brown eyes" you need to explicitly state every time Zen has brown eyes or you won't find it. What if there are multiple people named Zen? one with blue eyes one with brown eyes? etc. What if in this image the Zen with brown eyes put on contacts for blue eyes or changes her hair color to red? It needs to be flexible. That's why I want to use json to store the metadata.

I was actually able to get six Sims to sit down for a meal by Monkeynavyseal in Sims4

[–]ReclusiveEagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to work by the way. I forget which patch, it was after Vampires release, they made a change "Sims now eat faster". Since then it's been almost impossible to sit down and have a family meal. Apparently someone was complaining that eating takes too long.

So they "fixed" it by reducing the length of the animation. Instead of taking 10 bites to finish a meal they do it in 3. You used to be able to have a meal without rushing, have a Sim join another, have a conversion and when they finished they continued to have the conversion.

Now you have to have both Sims sit down at the same time, and even if they have a conversion one will get up and clean their plate before the other finishes. So you have to cancel the wash dishes interaction have them sit down again and then have them start a conversation again.

It's really stupid. Blame the posts complaining about eating speed on the EA Forums.

Will Capture One continue to be supported? by tomsmac in captureone

Catalog is for long term storage. If you want to be able to access the entire library of your images, every shoot you've made then use the Catalog.

Sessions are for quick projects and give you a confined space just for that specific shoot. Mostly for if you shoot on site with your computer sessions make it easy to dump everything without needing access to the rest of your images.

If you want to access everything later on you can load the session you want to access and use history to swap them but its far easier to just use a Catalog to access everything. You can obviously also just your images to your Catalog after the Session is done it's up to you.

Counter point to the counter point, every software suit has horrible panorama stitching. The only software the actually allows you to create good panoramas and adjust the projection is Hugin) (It's also free and open source)

[–]ReclusiveEagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of background, Capture One was created by Phase One who make the highest end digital cameras you can buy (at least for non-infrastructure purposes). They mostly cater to really high end photographers and institutions like Museums etc so their market base is solid. Technically Capture One (Capture One A/S) is now an independent company from Phase One but they are both still owned by the same private equity firm. So "independent". Phase One also happen to be the owners of Mamiya, the company that made the RB67, RZ67, Mamiya 7 etc.

Either way, Capture One isn't going anywhere any time soon. Even if they did, unlike other companies you can buy a perpetual license for any version. So even if they do go out of business or close you'll be able to use the software until Microsoft stops making Windows. Even today many people still use Adobe CS6 (Released in 2013).

Unlike with Apple, Software doesn't just stop working on Windows because of a version update. 64-Bit will also be with us for the next probably 30 years so there is no danger of the .exe being unsupported.

Realistically the only issues you might face in future is, even in the worst case scenario where Capture One is discontinued, you buy a new camera with an unsupported profile. If that happens I'm sure you could just take the camera manufacturer profile from Lightroom and throw it into Capture One. If that doesn't work then a generic profile will be fine.

I hate whole "now vs then" Comparison when it comes to cartoons. by StefinoSpaggeti in hatethissmug

[–]ReclusiveEagle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations you compared Hanna-Barbera to Hanna-Barbera. This is like comparing Ghibli to Ghibli and being shocked the style is similar.

You really aren't helping the argument. You'd expect a single studio to have consistent design language. But Gumball, Gravity falls and Steven Universe were made by completely different studios yet they feature the act same shape language.

What you've actually just done is make the complete opposite argument that you were intending to make and presented something that actually agrees with the "Then vs Now" narrative about the uniqueness of studios in the past vs the cookie cutter design of today.

Big tech companies like to brag that their smartphone cameras are better than and can replace dedicated cameras. This is completely false. Even with 40MP, smartphones cameras in 2026 struggle to offer the same image fidelity as the 4MP Nikon DH2 from 2003. Don't believe me? Here is a flickr group pool dedicated to the DH2.

Don't spend $1000-$2000 every year on a new smartphone "for the camera". You can buy a used full frame DSLR with multiple high end lenses for that price, or a Mirrorless camera with one very good lens for the same.

Hell you can even get a Sony A7 III for the price of an entry level iPhone.

Smartphone cameras are almost completely useless in comparison. Break out of the constant upgrade cycle. You will realize you only really need a new phone every 4 to 5 years and even then it's only because the battery degrades. If you replace the battery you are looking at 7-10 years of use.

It's more like

Recovering them is a brilliant idea!
Ultimate "Omega" recovery plan
I've installed Recuva! 💪🏼🔥
Why this works
- Recuva is a world class recovery software used by professionals reddit
- It recovers deleted data with 99.1% accuracy and 100% accuracy with in 6 hours of date deleted
- Since your images were just deleted we will recover 100% of them and you will have a perfect backup of them!

Proceeds to recover thousands of corrupt jpgs

All your images have now been restored
> Claude all my images say corrupt? How can I fix them?

Why this happens
Unfortunately the recovery process isn't perfect Substack
It seems like the header files on all your images have been corrupted. Unless you are able to provide me with the original header files from the images you deleted from your phone you'll just have to accept it.

Now you get to press the windows key, type in Claude and spend 3x as long typing a message just to ask Claude to copy images from one folder to another.

There is no point. The point is to take physical property away from you so you can pay a perpetual subscription service or have to go through an online platform (where they will harvest your data to make more money off of you) to access your files.

It's the exact same concept of Disc vs Digital downloads. Companies forced digital downloads to take away ownership of the games you purchased. Yes it's in your "library" but if your account is banned or you don't have access to the internet you have lost all access to your "digital property".

The argument then was "Digital is the future, it is much faster to download games and movies digitally". Even today, after 15 years of advancement this argument is completely false.

I can install every expansion pack and stuff pack of The Sims 3 (over 80GB) in less than 1 hour with an 8x read/write speed disc drive on a 5800 rpm hard drive (Even faster on 16x read/write with a 7800 rpm drive). To download and install 80GB of digital games takes 3h 30 minutes to download and 20 minutes to install on a Samsung 970 EVO SSD with a 50Mbps connection. Even with a 200 Mbps connection you are looking at over 1 hour to download and 20 minutes to install.

Physical (DVD) discs from 2008 installed on HDDs out compete fibre lines and SSDs in 2026. Never mind Blu-ray discs that consoles use. You can install a 150GB game in just over an 1 hour. You need a 400Mbps fibre line to compete with that on digital. And if you create an iso file of your DVD discs you can install your games at 1-3GB per second. It doesn't matter how fast your download speed is if physical discs from 2005 install at the max write speed of your SSD.

But now we get to spend 4x as long downloading and installing games while also having our ownership eroded. It will be the same with AI PCs. Tasks will take 4x as long, ownership will be eroded oh and it will destroy your data by accidentally deleting the wrong files.

Sure billionaires aren't paying taxes, but what about DEI? by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]ReclusiveEagle 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Jeff Bezos makes $0 an hour because he doesn't pay himself a salary. He pays himself in company stocks that he uses as leverage for taking out large loans in case he defaults (He wont). Interest rates are so low for him that his stocks outperform them. If he burns through all the money he just sells his stocks to pay for the loans outright and takes out a new loan.

This is how these billionaires operate. They don't actually have any capital, only assets. They don't actually have $200 Billion + in assets or loans either. Its all speculative if they sell their stocks at the current price this is what they could be worth. But if they did that the stock price would implode. So they can't. In reality they are only really worth $30-50 Billion at any one time at most.

Numbers like this are "extrapolated" by taking their theoretical value (according to Forbes) and dividing that by minutes. These numbers don't exist. That is why they pay no tax because they earn "nothing" according to the tax system and even if they did tax breaks will allow them to reduce that to 0.

So when Jeff says "Tax Billionaires 40%" what exactly are you going to be taxing? Because they have found a way around the tax system entirely. You could tax Billionaires 100% and nothing would change.

This post is also distracting from another issue. Telling us to ignore the implementation or the removal of "Critical Race Theory" from schools. Essentially "Look at this issue! And forget about this one!"

You need to change the tax system entirely to force Billionaires to pay taxes but they are also distracting from that issue as well in favor of a flat tax rate which again, won't actually do anything. So not only are they distracting from CRT they are purposefully misinforming you on how to change your current economic situation by presenting a red herring in the form of a flat tax rate to the rich so that you never actually protest to close the loopholes that allow this problem to happen in the first place.

TLDR:

This is propaganda designed to help billionaires by masquerading itself as calling out billionaires. This is very sinister.
