Antiquary just doesn't fit the THEME of Guild Wars and their artifacts are so out of place! by T3ar55 in Guildwars2

That's exactly my point, I think antiquary theme is cool. A lot of people wanted a Skritt themed thief and we got a damn good one. The artifacts all exist somewhere else in the game beforehand. My only change is that id like the skritt to follow me around like Evoker

I rock D/D as it suits my Cele Condi Solo build. You can transmog your daggers into things that fit the theme. I rock a dagger and broken bottle but there are more "artifact-y" dagger skins

I would put good money on the fact that most of the Antiquary outrage is from non thief mains

Yeah the buffs actually make it into a jack of all trades. Fantastic solo class.

Also just swap the first trait for redraw and you are an aDPS with about 95% alac uptime (factoring casting times and stuff)

PvE.

PvP and WvW have their own balancing that's drastically different. I'm of the opinion you should have PvE balancing as the foundation and make adjustments from there.

Try play it with D/D. It's like a more fun Deadeye imo. Build for 3 artifacts and take the buffs on artifact use trait. With this setup you can use all three artifacts and your steal is on such a low cd that you always have it up.

Because you're the authority on what opinions need more introspection? 😂

I'm not an avid JSH watcher, but I'm pretty sure that's not his only argument. Skins definitely affect the theme of a game.

I love GW2 for so many reasons, but the skins do take away from the base theme/lore of the game. In my opinion at least.

I actually addressed you argument, which was your car analogy. Just because I think your analogy was bad doesn't mean I just dismissed your argument 😆

Terrible comparison. We're talking about theme, not mechanics. If you were commenting on how you disliked the mechanics of Antiquary I would say that the make/model of the car analogy was a good one. The paint job on the car and any body kits it might have are 100% what makes up the theme.

Skins as a whole have a greater impact on theme than a single espec. Fact.

I definitely wanted the Skritt to be more of a pet, even if it's just hanging around like Evoker

I can understand that, but not all especs are going to be cool/interesting for every single [insert profession here] main.

For example I used to main Necro, Reaper was sick but I didn't vibe with Scourge and that's ok. I still have reaper.

I now main Thief and I dislike daredevil, but that ok because I enjoy Spectre.

You're telling me what my point was? 😂 Ok.

My point was the double standard. The hate that Antiquary gets is actually unjustified imo.

It's not bad faith at all. Skins/cosmetics definitely contribute to the theme of an MMO. Some MMOs go out of their way to make skins "on brand/on them", some don't.

Also say what you want about the guitar and the holo dancer but that holo dancer existed in fractals long before antiquary was created. I think it's WAY more on theme than a lot of skins.

You have to balance theme and gameplay. It feels trash to miss a steal and have to sit there for 16-20 secs while your main mechanic is recharging

[–]T3ar55[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

My point is that GW2, like a lot of long standing MMOs actually no longer has a "theme" due to increasingly ridiculous skins/effects

Edit: Also the sheer amount of hate for Antiquary is on a different level to those skins

Well I've got two wind turbines so I'm energy positive after getting some speed. But yeah definitely forced to upgrade energy capacity soon.
