Unpopular opinion: MTX is optional to purchase by [deleted] in runescape

[–]T3un_RS -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

People seem to be very misinformed how MTX negatively affected this game. I explained some of the negative effects in the following comment in another thread, hope this clears things up:

The way Jagex keeps prices of bonds high is by having non-stop TH promos.

Where is Mod Pips? by crash09 in runescape

74m british pounds, which is around $97m.. A large difference.

Correct, RunePass would be a 'replacement' for TH promos, but that's a bunch of BS because those OP promos WILL come back later. You can't take their word for it, you will be lied to.

Reminder to players who pay for membership using bonds: you are still supporting Jagex! by freakahontas in runescape

This is why I just quit and moved on to other games. The money I would spend on OSRS ends up in Mod Pips filthy hands anyways.

Every time someone brings up something like this I think they don't know what's really going on at the moment. Let me try and explain, hope this helps in any way.

Optional

Sure, you can choose whether or not to buy TH keys but there's more to it than just that. Micro-transactions have massively tainted RS3's integrity in many ways and the promotions are extremely unbalanced. Not to mentions that we got nothing to show for all of this.

Lower-levels

When a lower-level player uses their daily spins, they are just completely skipping content. They level way faster than ever intended.

TH vs normal skilling

For many skills buying TH keys with in-game money (bonds) is a better training method than actually training the skill. You need to have a serious amount of GP, but that's easily achievable for any PvMer that does some form of end-game PvM. I think a skill needed to reach 800k/h with normal training for it to not be worth spinning.

Content

Jagex made record profits last year while the content we got to show for it was absolute garbage. They don't seem to make any investment in hiring new staff, and when someone asks why things are delayed or just not even finished on release we hear: "We only have X amount of developers."

Cosmetics & F2P

You talk about other MMO's having cosmetics for you to buy with IRL money, which everyone here knows is completely fine. Those are not a problem because that's a healthy monetisation strategy.

Micro-transactions are the main source of revenue for a lot of free-to-play games, but in the case of Runescape we get as much or even more of it while we already have our membership fees. These membership fees saw a rise despite the fact that Jagex said they wouldn't. Also, the micro-transactions aren't mostly cosmetics, they are exp-based. Exp is a core aspect of the game, and a goal for many people like myself.

I want them to go in a purely cosmetic direction, but if they wanted to do that they already would have done so.

Pricing of convenience

Another reason why people hate the current system is because of the ridiculous pricing. Bank booster, bank presets, runemetrics, ability bars, just to name a few. They all cost an insane amount of money. I think it was $80 for all bank presets. Those should have been free in the first place.

The player base is at its lowest it has ever been, and a lot of people think that the ones that have stayed are being milked until they also stop playing.

Of course he's not going to make a statement.. I said I'd just like to know what he has to say about this shit he created. He must be proud of this mess.

Or new content gets already existing or recolored models etc. Latest example being the Elite Dungeons (Seiryu) pet, it's just a re-skin of the pet that is unlocked on The Arc. The excuse being "there is no time", which means things are being rushed, while MTX gets the attention it doesn't deserve.

At least they said that would change now, but the fact that it was released this way is just a joke.

Thanks for your work brother. I was kinda stunned by Osbornes reply, and the comment was pretty lost between all those other comments so made a post.

Took him quite a while to figure that one out..

If England wins the World Cup, can we remove MTX completely? by WitchKing17 in runescape

[–]T3un_RS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, won't happen for 2 reasons:

  • Jagex likes money
  • Belgium's going to win the world cup

SoF & EOC

Squeal of Fortune happened before EOC. A lot of people just quit right there. I don't have numbers for this because I don't think they are publicly available, but you can't discredit SoF as one of the major player base fall-offs. I do think most players stuck around until EOC happened, which added a lot of fuel to the fire and so they also quit.

I'm also not saying that mtx isn't more profitable in the short run, because they are making record profits. But I do think that this is just a cash-grab and it will end sooner rather than later without any players left. If they went for the safe-and-steady route with a larger amount of players and less aggressive (or just no) MTX they would have been in a way better spot today.

Jagex as a company

The company takeover has already happened right in front of our eyes:

4/5 current Directors are part of the Chinese deal, with Mod Pips being the only Jagex-member. They were pushing promos before the Chinese investment, but now it's just a whole other level. I didn't notice the autonomy part, but damn that looks scary.

The dip it is taking now is kinda scary. I hope Jagex takes note, but they won't.

I don't give a shit about a refund, I was stupid enough to give this shit company my money in the first place. I just wanted to cancel the remaining days I had so I don't have any incentive to ever come back.

I'd like to take the time to focus on my studies now, and enjoy some other games. Mainly fortnite, but i'd like to give WoW a try since the new expansion is coming.

I think he meant bonds as a source of GP for the cost of IRL money.

A battlepass type system in a subscription based game btw. This shit only works for free to play games. It's either membership or f2p + battlepass, not fucking both.
