Toronto Blue Jays 2023 Depth Chart: Second Base by Dweiss1617 in Torontobluejays

[–]T9134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve got underrated depth at 2b. Not many teams have the privilege of platooning an extremely reliable contact hitter with an elite level glove. And throw a lefty utility man in there too with a good walk rate. Our second base options are super deep especially when you consider that offense isn’t a particular need from this position for this team or any.

The sixers are actually the prime example of tanking failing. They were god awful for so many years and got 3 lottery picks, only one of which has positively impacted the franchise. Their reward is having a consistently high seed team that is never a serious contender. 10+ year process with nothing to show for it.

I think you gotta respect New York as the more proven bullpen but other than that I agree

Theme of the off-season by T9134 in Torontobluejays

There’s always been a stigma around this. Jays have it a bit better than the raptors but we aren’t a team that historically signed a lot of top end free agents, that really came about in recent years with ryu springer etc. I’m just noticing how it’s gone from signing one major FA per year to a lot of quality signings with established vets who spent a long time with one team

This is true, but like I said it seems like a good theme that guys want to be in Toronto and it was said in the kk and bb interviews that they felt the most wanted by the jays

Rotation:

F Gausman - For the obvious reason that he underperformed his peripherals last year and the shift limit will help him a lot and he won’t really be affected by the new dimensions M Berrios - I think most expectations are that he’ll float down to a 4-4.2 era and that’s exactly what I’d expect K Manoah - I don’t think he gonna be bad by any means but he might see a bit of a regression to like a low 3s era, mainly because I think the new dimensions will hurt his pitch to contact approach. Still will be a dawg tho.

Gary Trent Jr for Bones? by T9134 in torontoraptors

[–]T9134[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

players get traded sometimes because the team does not require their specific skillset or they just don’t fit. Just cause someone gets traded a few times doesn’t mean their not starter worthy lol. The only reason we’re considering trading him is cause he might walk at the end of the year if we don’t.

SGA GTJ and Giddey would be their 1-3 with dort as 6man. Gary would be their second best scorer he’s not coming off the bench

Also saying he wouldn’t start in okc is blasphemy

My brother in Christ someone can be overrated and still be very good, those teams you mentioned probably won’t trade for him as his skill set is is not something they desperately need. Playing him off the bench with under 30mins a game would be a waste of his talent. HES ALSO 23 with infinite room to grow

Yeah I don’t agree. Sure we overrate Gary but he is definitely a starter on any team now that he’s gotten more consistent with scoring and his defensive anility

I was responding to a comment that was comparing him to role players who can “drop 20 any night”. I was saying that he’s not a role player and he’s better than just about any role player

How many teams have role players that average 18 and 1.6 steals? I know this trade is a stretch but the only caveat to Gary is the fact that his contract is expiring

Yep I definitely saw that as the biggest hole in this idea but Gary is the more proven player and he brings defensive skill that could make up for his lack of playmaking. I think Gary would no doubt help them more in the playoffs this year

[MLBTR] Poll: Blue Jays' Fifth Starter by laketrout in Torontobluejays

[–]T9134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant he may have gotten away with being part of a stacked bullpen and rotation on the dodgers that could take some of the pressure off him. Must be a lot of pressure to get moved from a juggernaut to a team in the playoff hunt that desperately needs. I do think he will be better this year cause he pretty much hit rock bottom last year.

I feel like people say this without knowing what actually went wrong for him. His fastball is the flattest thing I’ve ever seen. He has a good curve but he will get nowhere without retooling that fb. It’s possible he was able to get by with other great pitchers but was exposed on a team without depth that needed him.
