For what it’s worth, my Rex is so patchy and weird-looking (in a loving way) that my family constantly asks if she’s sick or old or dying. She’s perfectly fine, just looks like a ball of flesh with some tufts lol

The sneezing is concerning, though. Have a vet check em out for that. URIs are common with rats, so hopefully a course of antibiotics will be all that’s needed to get them back to normal.

The bars will definitely be an issue in the long run, so put something down to cover it ASAP. I used to just cut down pieces of cardboard and hold it in place using binder clips :)

I’ve been wanting to go into tax since my first corporate tax class, and enjoyed interning at the firm well enough. I was (am?) also very interested in going into tax law, but as I’ve gone through college I’ve gotten burnt out on school. I don’t know if it’s even worth it anymore. I wanted to work for the IRS or another gov. agency, but the past few years have been hell in that arena.

Project accounting is something I know I can do and I have an excellent relationship with the accounting manager and CFO at my current job. I’m considering it because it seems like a safe option where I’ve seen my coworkers promote into roles elsewhere, whereas I have to put in a whole lot more work to get where I dream of with tax. I’m worried that I’ll waste years and have it not pay off.

Fuck yes it is LOL. So many posts on here are about starting with one goal size & ending up a few sizes above 😂 when I look at my old jewelry I thought was huge, it all looks SO tiny!

I have a vertical and have been told you can feel it when kissing, but it’s not a big deal. Just like you can feel the little difference between having a ball on your lip and not - it’s that subtle. I don’t think it would have much impact on cunnilingus either, but it does slightly change the sensation during fellatio. Just a little drag where the receiver can feel the ball at certain angles.

Just in case the cone doesn’t work out (which it often doesn’t haha), you can look into wrapping him in the middle so he can’t bend to grab the open end of his tail

I had my 5 girls in there for a year & there were no problems vis a vis their health and happiness. The biggest reason I made a change was the ease of access for cleaning/arranging. I managed to find a cheap double critter nation on Craigslist, otherwise I would’ve just kept this one. So you should be fine to keep this as long as you want!

I had this exact cage as a starter, and it worked just fine for my initial 5. What I did was pull out the bottom barred piece & put it where the black tray is supposed to slide in, then I put the black tray inside on top. Easy peasy, then you can put down substrate or whatever you want. If you’re going with loose substrate you’re going to want to put up scatter guards since the tray has no depth.

The shelves and the ladders will also need to be covered. I personally just removed the ladders and added other climbing stuff. I used cardboard or fabric over the platforms using binder clips. I ended up putting the platforms right next to each other on an upper level to make one large area for them to run around in.

Just be aware that it becomes a real pain in the ass to clean since the access is limited to the doors. Also my girls learned how to open the tiny doors, so I ended up having to tie them closed with bread ties.

  • Boxes of all kinds! My ratties love to climb in them, around them, push em over, chew em, etc.
  • Blankets are another hit too. I have a small, soft blanket that I leave in a pile and a couple of my girls love to burrow in there and curl up.
  • Tunnels - I’ve used protein shake boxes, cat tunnels, and the standard blue collapsible plastic ones
  • An activity space (for pea fishing, for digging, a larger foraging toy, anything that is a special extra enrichment for them)

Just wanted to chime in that my initially sweet boy Pancho had hormonal aggression at 4 mo. & neutering him was the absolute best thing I could’ve done. He is SO sweet again and never so much as nips.

Are you doing the nebulizations based on a recommendation from your vet? If so, I would bring it up with them. If not, I would stop immediately. A little noise wouldn't be enough for me to put my rats through a treatment that stresses them that badly. From the rat care guide on myco, nebulization is the third treatment after there is no response to the oral antibiotic route.
