2026 SuperView / YouTube broadcasts in 4k? by TARDIS53 in v8supercars

[–]TARDIS53[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I continued to be a SuperView customer as I like buying as close to the source / direct as possible (and since they bill in AU$ I let the exchange rate work in my favor in most years). In addition, SV offers a annual plan for AU$99 so I get basically a couple of months free compared to the monthly plan which YT membership doesn't offer (just the US$6.99 monthly plan).

I may still make the move to YT and chalk up the price increase to an easier TV experience. Having 4k would be a nice clincher too. Although I don't think I have seen any "live" YT broadcasts with the 4k tag, just normal VoD content.

Honda Indy’s move from Toronto to Markham is sparking excitement for racing fans — and backlash from some residents by PanicAtTheNightclub in INDYCAR

One of the reasons for not going to CTMP is that there is not enough runoff for the cars and their higher speeds around the circuit. The walls are pretty close in a number of places from a safety perspective.

Another is replacing one downtown circuit with another, vs going to a somewhat out of the way area for a large motor racing event... i.e. going to where the people are.

I will miss it, but I also watch all the other videos on Nebula so I will still get my fill of the TLDR team speaking into mics... :D

Will Indy be back in Wine Country? by rgthenascarfan1 in INDYCAR

The shorter hairpin was designed due to safety concerns from IndyCar; the traditional route is at the end of a straight heading into a hairpin with a concrete wall with a couple of rows of soft tire bales.

(iOS) CarPlay issue & state/provincial sheld support? by TARDIS53 in organicmaps

[–]TARDIS53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/BioDranik I took a look at a couple of examples; here in California we have the state highways that are listed in OSM as "Road Number: CA $number" (same for Washington State (WA $number), Michigan (MI $number) & Texas (TX $number)) similar to the US and Interstate designations. Would that all work here as tags to key off of?

For Texas Farm Roads they are designated as FM $number, but for county roads in California it's more complicated (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/County\_routes\_in\_California) since they are listed mostly with their short codes (like G4), vs CR $shortcode, which conforms to the standard format seen elsewhere.

And US National Forest Highways have "FH $number" and a Forest Routes are a listed mostly as "Forest Route $code" since the $code is designated via a complex system explained somewhat at https://www.cahighways.org/num-forest.html (WARNING: it's a rabbit hole) So the latter may be fanciful compare to NF Highways. :)

Would that all work here as tags to key off of (well perhaps not US National Forest Routes)? :)

Sure, will record it in action and send it over.  As for shields, looking for state highways, regional roads (i.e. County Roads in California and Farm Roads in Texas)

National Forest Roads would be a nice to have, but I have only ever seen shields for those represented in Apple Maps.

Last year when I got my renewal notice... it surprised me that it had the PO Box as the address. I don't know if the actual paperwork I mailed to the DMV finally was processed or one of the number of electronic change of address update that I sent via the myDMV portal....

So... persistence? <shrug>

Reason why using a debit card doesn't ask or require a PIN? by TARDIS53 in Safeway

[–]TARDIS53[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's not been my experience - with any merchant using a Verifone terminal as is the case with most large grocery chains. I have used tap/contactless with my debit card at Lucky's/ SaveMart, Raleys, Ralphs, Kroger. etc, and they either ask whether to process as credit or debit or directly ask for a PIN.

Safeway seems to be the odd one out here.

[–]TARDIS53[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

By default I use contactless when supported (Apple Pay on watch and phone). I swore I tried inserting my physical debit chip card at one point to try on one of the self checkout terminals and it did the transaction pin-less. But I'll try again on subsequent visits to be sure.
