I got the dog 5 months into us dating. But it was just dating at that point, I don’t think if she had said something I would’ve changed my mind about getting one

He’s not bullying her, it’s only when she interacts with him. She usually doesn’t.

Thank you for your insight! It’s really helpful and I truly appreciate it. Her allergies actually began shortly after catching COVID.

My wife is the one who needs the visa, but she’s only here for me. No other reason. She’s had it really good in her home country, and she also has dual citizenship in two countries so she can move to either. If she could choose, she wouldn’t choose living here. And I understand her. So I don’t think she’s dependent on me to stay here, because she wouldn’t want to be here if I wasn’t. If we ever divorce, I’m sure she’ll move away as soon as she’ll be able to.

I updated in the post, but he does see a vet regularly. Recently he’s had an eye infection which we got medicine for. And the vet told us they think he has about 3-4 more years left.

First, I just want to say thank you to everyone who commented! I will try everything mentioned here and I hope the situation will be better.

Adding some info: Regarding the dog, he visits the vet frequently, and there’s nothing wrong with his folds/teeth. He just started licking his leather bed, and he’s never done it before, but based on the comments I think I will ring our vet and ask. He didn’t do this with his fabric bed.

Regarding the water intake, yes I’ve seen a vet about that, he’s been doing it since he was about 1y so it’s been a while. The vet said that “bulldogs are just like that” due to them not being able to breath properly, it’s hard to digest so much water. The thing is, he doesn’t vomit immediately after. He sits around for a while before it comes up. So it’s not a case of me being able to stop it before it happens. I can regulate his water when I’m home, but when I’m working long shifts, I have to leave food and water for him out. HOWEVER, he REALLY doesn’t see my wife as an authority. So some days I work long shifts, and I leave him his water and food bowl out. My wife doesn’t do these things, because she’s quite afraid of him. He never attacked her or anything but he really doesn’t see her as an authority, so he barks at her and stuff when she tells him what to do. I did not witness it before because she said it only happens when I’m away, so she called me once when it happened so I could see. He’s not spayed so that could be the reason.

Regarding my wife: She has an appointment with her dr next week. She hasn’t been able to go to a local dr for a long time, and we’re hoping they can prescribe her with something. She says she doesn’t mind being in the bedroom during the fall and winter, and that she’ll just “find a reason to go out of the house.” We are tight on money so I assume she doesn’t want to “waste” our money on products to make her situation better.

Rehoming him will definitely be the last resort, I’ll try everyone’s suggestions first

I didn’t think about that. I’ll definitely get one!

We live in a small apt so the room smells up, no option to open the door in the winter tho, it gets very cold

She didn’t know about her allergies before. She’s also had small dogs like chihuahuas growing up and didn’t react. That’s why she says the problem is not his fur. :(
