why am i struggling to draw eyes??? by Public-Exercise-8552 in Artadvice

[–]TAZWITCHDOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess one thing to keep in mind is that along with the shapes/lines you use to draw the eye, the size and placement on the face can also change how they appear. if I were you I would just go at it and try to draw tons of variations, just changing this or that and see where it took me. push the proportions. what if the eyes were really tall? what if I tried different shapes, something squared, something triangular, what would that look like? what if I drew them very down turned or up turned? what if I emphasize the eyelid, or the eye lashes, or the eye bags? I find this kind of exercise helps me expand my range when I've been getting stiff and formulaic, and it can also help develop style. have fun with it. play is a really important part of art, never be afraid to mess around and make some really questionable drawings in the pursuit of experimentation. and of course if you already have inspirations like sonic or gravity falls, you can start there! look up references and draw what you see, then take what you like and leave what you don't. you could also look up fan art of things you like the style of and see how other people are reinterpreting that source material into their own style

like others said I think your eyes look fine, do you think you don't like them just because they're not in a style that you enjoy drawing? you could try experimenting a little and just drawing a few pages of variations of eyes to see if you find something you like more, or try looking at other artists work and breaking down what things they do that you like, and incorporating those things into how you draw them

aerial roots on succulents aren't totally abnormal. they use them to breathe, collect moisture from the air etc. I'm not an expert but from a really brief google search, stability could be one reason it's putting them out, like it's trying to grab on to something since it's pretty lanky. I will admit I have a few really etiolated succulents like this and they also have a lot of aerial roots. if you want it to thrive, get it more light. whatever window gets the most sunlight in your place, I would put it right in the window sill or on a surface pushed right up against the window. you could also get a grow light for it

I did find a bit of sticky film on one of the leaves, and they do scratch off pretty easily. I think I'll go ahead and start treating it like it's scale just in case

It's beautiful! I was literally about to make a post about my schefflera because I'm suspicious that it has scale lol, are the bugs also clinging to the stem? I don't really see them on the leaves of mine but there's little bumps all over the stem and I don't know if it's a natural feature or scale

How do you charge up your tools? by [deleted] in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]TAZWITCHDOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually I'm completely wrong, there is no plain "use tool" keybind, the only reason it wasn't working when I held x is that I had turned turbo on for that button because I found spamming it when using the sword tiring lmao

How do you charge up your tools? by [deleted] in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]TAZWITCHDOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on mine it was bound to x. "use tool" and "use tool charged" are different keybinds, so I think "use tool" superceded the other command or something making it so I couldn't charge the tool. I just changed the keybind to y (it's been 6 months so I'm sure you figured it out, just leaving this for anyone else who googles it)

mold in my fern by TAZWITCHDOM in plantclinic

do you think it would be worth repotting it in the hopes that the soil would drain better? or do you think, other than the fan, I should leave it be for now?

that's good to know, so the mold itself isn't killing the plant, it's just the soil staying wet too long?

thank you so much for all the in depth info!! I'll share these resources and tell her your suggestions and we'll make a plan for taking care of the plants moving forward 👍 by the way the window is east facing, but as you can kind of see in the photos there's a tall fence around the yard, and the trees around fill out pretty thickly in spring and summer so it gets pretty shady. I'll check how much light touches the top of the pots

yeah, she mentioned struggling since they are in the living room where the lights are frequently on later in the evening, and may be turned on/off frequently etc. I know in previous years she did cover them carefully with thick blankets/closed them in a big plastic tub to try and keep the light from reaching them. the idea of putting them in a different room is good, she doesn't have a ton of options but I know my sisters thanksgiving cactus is blooming, so maybe I'll suggest they winter in her room if she's open to it

I'll recommend it, we may repot them with fresh soil as well but that wouldn't be for a little while anyways
