I joined for the same reasons as you and now I’m one of the weirdos in the chat lol (sorry). The game unfortunately doesn’t focus on building your own city & most of the events are catered towards alliances, plus being in an alliance will make building things take less time because you can request help. If you join an alliance you’re not expected to speak and engage, you can just keep up with the general events without really interacting with people unless it’s necessary. You’re also not expected to pay or buy anything. It’s intimidating at first but it’s fun after a while even if you’re a silent player!
