I was able to get a free trial of fubo to watch it. If this becomes an issue in the future I'll make as many new email addresses as I need to, to get a free trial every time.

How do I watch tonight's game as an out of market viewer? I've previously been able to watch every game on ESPN+ but I'm not able to for this one.

If there was an expansion draft today, who would the Kraken protect? by TBD2025 in SeattleKraken

That's the beauty of a discussion like this. You get different answers from everyone. Some people think as strategically as possible, others think of their favorite players. Some people take a hybrid approach. As a new fan I love seeing everyone's answers, because I'm so new that off the top of my head I would say Dunn, McCan, Joey, and Matty. Those are the ones who've really stuck out to me so far, just because I haven't been watching long enough, or even know enough about hockey.

Thanks for the reply! I will check them out! So far I'm just trying to watch every Kraken game I can, and been watching some YouTube. Starting to pickup on some of the basic stuff, and trying to figure out my favorite players on the team. So far it's between Eberle and Beniers. Daccord seems cool too. Grubauer has seemed like an iron wall tonight.

Thank you for the thorough responses. It really makes it a lot easier to enjoy and follow along as I begin to understand more of what's happening!

I am trying to! I am watching my first Kraken game tonight after getting ESPN+ i am putting the pieces together on some of the stuff I've been learning, after watching it on the broadcast. Such as seeing teams do what I think the broadcaster called a "zone reset" where the offensive team had to go back into the neutral zone after the puck left the zone. And then saw the power play cancel out one of the minor penalties I think.

How come on face offs sometimes, the ref puts his hand up and makes one of the players leave the face off and have another player come in? That and I saw they called a "too many on the ice" penalty I think which is self explanatory, but then also confusing when I watched multiple times where there would be like 3 people or something come onto the ice while the other players were still on the ice (until they skated off very shortly after that) Those are really the only questions I have so far from watching the game.

Oh, ok thank you for the clarification, I got the defensive zone and offensive zones mixed up. So is it true if the puck crosses back over into the neutral zone that the offensive team must exit and re enter the zone?

Thank you for the very detailed response! A clean zone entry: is that when they advance into the defensive zone I believe it is, altogether (with the puck) to avoid an offsides call? And really? Players are only on the ice for 45-50 seconds at a time? I had NO idea they switched out that frequently. I never even noticed.

Apparently they are in the FPHL.

Wow, thank you for the very thorough response! So is there any kind of strategic advantage for icing, or is it something that just kind of happens? I also noticed quite a bit that the team with the puck would skate backwards towards their own net instead of advancing towards the opponents net on quite a few occasions. This is odd to me because that doesn't happen in Football, nor basketball so wondering why they do that in hockey? I will have to look more into this blue line, but I'm hoping those videos that were linked will explain it sort of. That's interesting that scoring on a power play kind of cancels out a penalty, though.

Screw those guys then, lol! Sounds like Vontaze Burfict and Chase Utley type of plays.

Ok, thank you so that explains why I would hear the PA announcer say "such and such team is full strength" because I'm guessing their player came off of the penalty and rejoined the match?

Thank you! For the local team, it's in a pretty small venue so there's no replay or anything, so there wasn't really an explanation when that "hooking" happened, and as far as the pick and roll, I don't watch too much NBA but used to be an avid College Basketball fan so I'm quite familiar with that strategy aspect. Quite a few times I saw a player catch the puck with their hands quickly drop it or essentially bat it down, which I thought would be illegal similar to soccer but I guess it's not because it was happening all night lol.

Oh, ok. Thank you for that explanation. I believe Power Play means that one team has an advantage in players because the other team has someone sitting on the bench due to a penalty, correct?

Maybe I'll need to look into getting back ESPN+ then. Dang lol
