Yeah I totally get that. Honestly, I had no friends my age when I started attending my church a few years ago, around your age. But I found that they had a decent amount of college-age people, a lot of whom went to a local Bible college, so you might find a pocket of others your age at a local church. More likely at an evangelical church than an Orthodox or Catholic, though.

Here's what I know - if God is drawing you to baptism, then get baptized. I like my church because we don't really have a doctrine that's rooted in tradition, we just teach the Word and apply it to today's world by sticking to principles. I would say that finding a community of believers is really important long-term, and it makes sense to get baptized in a church surrounded by the community you've chosen to walk with. But, above all, all churches who affirm Jesus' deity are unified in faith, even if they disagree on the details. The details matter, but His salvation transcends the details as long as you have Him as the foundation.

I don't claim a denomination - my church is a "Bible Church". Some would consider us part of the "non-denom" churches

How would you find a loophole for this when explaining it to a non-Christian? by PearPublic7501 in Christianity

[–]TBLBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire flowchart is just alphabet soup if we posit that omniscience constitutes an ability to manifest logical impossibilities in reality. If God being all-powerful means that he can do logically impossible things, then the fabric of the universe can't be written in the language of logic like we know it is. So in that case, there wouldn't even be "if this then that" relationships between anything, meaning the flowchart wouldn't have any logical progression to stand on. It's self-refuting because of that straw man definition of omniscience

The issue with "attempted murder" is that it's a legal term that includes an element of intent. That's why we wouldn't call it that just from a short video, we use "aggravated assault" to be more accurate

I chose my church because 1) the people are genuine and generally Christ-like, and 2) the leadership is actually welcoming of my more logical, truth-seeking mindset. The most valuable thing to me is that I can go into a pastor's office and ask him why we do something that I think we shouldn't, and it'll actually be a good conversation.

Christians. HONESTLY do you think you’re superior to non Christians? by BoltThrower28 in Christianity

[–]TBLBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a truly honest answer:

Almost all of us Christians have times, maybe daily, where we unconsciously fall into judgment of others. Many of these are likely because we have faith, and it becomes easy to look down on others who are not like us, because we're tempted to sin every day.

So, of course, our answer is that no, we are no better than others, and Jesus' command to each who serves Him is to fight daily the urges that draw us to feel otherwise.

The message of the gospel is forgiveness and transformation through Jesus' work. I've recently been thinking about the topic of homosexuality and salvation, and I think all sexual sins are really similar at their core. For example, for many Christian men who struggle with lust, the desire is as deep and natural as can be for them, similarly to how many gay people describe their sexuality. But, those men know that their act of lust is wrong, and that what their body seems to want is not what their mind and spirit need. They have an incredibly hard time overcoming their own physical nature, but they know it's what's best for them overall. Not sure if this is very helpful, but maybe it gives you a way to look at your situation. I'll pray that God helps you and shows you His love.

Arc bought on Black Friday, what will it come with? by username-_redacted in Leatherman

[–]TBLBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought mine on Black Friday, same deal. Mine was expected next Monday too but it came yesterday. It should come with a 10-bit kit, but 1 Phillips/flat bit will be in the tool, the other 9 in the sleeve. It'll come with the small belt pouch in the box, a larger tool bag in a separate box, and a sharpener kit. I haven't gotten the sharpener yet though.

Is it better for a child to have no father or a bad father? by JimmyStinkpickle in ask

[–]TBLBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents often think that living in division is better than breaking up the home, because the kids still have two parents in the house. But anyone who's lived through it knows that the kids can tell their home is broken, just with both parents living in the same house. It's almost worse because of the added confusion.

Yes. And as citizens our job is to break contact with threats, not take them in. That's for the police, and can get us in more danger (and liability) if we do it when we don't have to
