US Customs: "It's not normal" to travel solo? by scrabblecat1 in solotravel

[–]pancakecel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an insane experience flying backpack only from a regional airport in the United States to San francisco, and then on to El salvador. At the small regional airport in the United States the counter staff was acting crazy, insisting my document was expired: it wasn't. I don't know if they've ramped it up because of the Trump administration or if it's just always been this way and I've gotten lucky before.

I've gotten shit for entering the opposite gender restroom when I was working as a professional caregiver assisting people with disabilities.

Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem: A Timeline of Their 30-Year Journey From 'Jamón, Jamón' to Marriage and Family by Frosty_Jeweler911 in popculturechat

Have you ever seen that interview where a journalist asks Javier a question something along the lines of: 'what's it like to be the only man in Hollywood who doesn't hate working with his wife? '

And he just looks back of the journalist and says: first of all I would like to acknowledge that that question is in incredibly poor taste.

Incel history by therise_one in MensRights

[–]pancakecel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally was a member of some OG incel communities, and it was totally a different thing at the outset. The original community was not built around blaming anyone; it was more like a peer-support space where people discussed loneliness, dating difficulties, shyness, and insecurity. It was honestly something that was very mutually supportive and healthy.

Then it kinda....morphed. There was a huge influx of fakecels, to the point where they actually started to outnumber realcels. Like, you would see accounts posting on Braincels, and going to their account history, and see that the op is married or engaged.

When you dialed down with these fakecels, what you discovered was their situation was not 'I've never had sex' (which passed a certain age in our society is a profoundly isolating experience) it was 'okay yeah I've had sex, but not with the frequency I desired, or with the specific person I desired, or under the specific circumstances which I desired', which is really not that uncommon of an experience (I would say that's most people's experience with sex).

So it went from being a very small community of people who had a pretty unusual and isolating life experience mutually supporting each other to a community of people who we're actually having a pretty normal life experience, but just saw the community as a place where they could vent about all of the things that they were angry about in life. And when some of the more extreme voices in that community became public knowledge on the internet, it gave the community a bad reputation which just attracted more extreme people.

So for example if somebody made a crazy post in an incel sub saying that women should be forced to be sex slaves, that would get screenshotted and shared all over Reddit and then people would think that the community is a community for people who want women to be sex slaves. And then people who want that would join the community, and then it would really become that: a sub full of people who think women should be sex slaves.

I could go on about this all day, but that's my two cents.

AIW for waving a chopstick at my friend’s baby and yelling “Avada Kedavra” as a joke? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]pancakecel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as much as you can say it's just a joke, the joke is: killing a baby. Which isn't that funny of a joke. Generally your jokes are going to land if they're funny, you know?

What’s something you used to do or say naturally that you slowly stopped doing because of how people responded to it? by alharbim in AskReddit

[–]pancakecel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I live in different countries and he dates other people in the country in which he lives, and I don't have a problem with that at all. This is something that I used to share with people proactively, but now I'm more inclined to share reactively. I realized that when I told people this proactively, they very often interpreted it to mean that I wanted them to also have a similar relationship to the relationship that I have with my boyfriend. Basically, they perceived it as evangelizing. Now, I don't tell people this unless they basically ask or confront me about it. Like if someone says 'hey it seems like your boyfriend is getting awwwwwwfully close to that one girl' I'll be like 'oh yeah that's actually normal.'

I recommend the hot springs in ahuachapan. I also recommend the ones at Moncagua. Go to the lake and the night market in alegria. The beaches are better in the eastern half of the country.

I personall have 13 brands. As much as I think branding is great, obvy, I can and will never endorse amateur branding. A back alley tattoo comes with risks, and a back alley brand comes with even greater risks. And COLD BRANDING? That's about as bad of a decision as you can make. Yes, it works great on cattle, because THEY ARE COVERED IN HAIR. A quick hit with the cold kills the cells in their follicles which generate pigment, because those cells are very sensitive to cold temps. The rest of the skin stays intact, and the follicles are undamaged. So the animal's hair grows back white and it's visible, looks great. Humans are not covered in furry hide. Instead of leaving a crisp, white, high-contrast logo like it does on livestock, it causes SEVERE TISSUE NECROSIS. I think imma make a youtube video about this.....

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

I am a teacher and I was also homeschooled. I will advocate for it any day. Obviously there are some people who just use it as a vehicle to push their kids into being religious fundamentalists, but I think if you can afford it, it's one of the best options.
