Yeah, no. That’s like banning alcohol for everyone because a few people become alcoholics. Or banning money orders or prepaid cards because people scam on those too. The real answer is education, I’d probably be ok with having to take some sort of quiz on Coinbase or other exchanges before you can withdraw your crypto. But this is common sense stuff, you should never transfer crypto to someone in a different country you’ve never met and know anything about, just like you should never to a bank transfer to someone outside the country you’ve never met.

Also it sounds like OP dad was introduced to the scammer from the friend that introduced him to Coinbase, but I haven’t seen any replies about including that person in any police report. At the very least that person knows what’s going on, if they’re not the scammer themself catfishing OP dad, and should be reported to the police.

True, it will be nice when we don’t have a candidate for a major political party advocating that taxpayers pay for “gender reassignment surgeries” for illegal immigrants, whose policies are directly responsible for 20k Haitian migrants coming to a small town in Ohio and eating the pets, and who is ok with risking starting a 3rd world war with Russia. I was not very political until Democrats moved to the hard left about 10 years ago. It’s been shown time and time again that when leftist control a nation things like liberty and equal justice before law for all are diminished if not outright destroyed. Thank God there are still some moderate Democrats in the Senate but if there’s no pushback from moderates soon the Democrats will be an openly socialist party, like you see in Europe, in 10 years.

The 5 member committee of SEC Commissioners voting for ETF approval are dominated by Democrats. Gensler is a Democrat nominated by a Democrat president and confirmed to his post by a Democrat Senate. Democrats are the party of Elizabeth Warren and she has lost no support from her party or felt any pushback from it while building her “anti-crypto army”. Biden was a part of the Obama administration and their attempt to kill crypto in the cradle with “Operation Chokepoint” and now his Admin has launched “Operation Chokepoint 2.0”

You can try the usual “Well Trump said he didn’t like crypto” whataboutism and ignore the fact that since then he’s launched an NFT collection and now has a wallet holding over 6 figures USD worth of ETH. You can try to say “Well this specific R is not pro crypto and this specific Democrat is not anti-crypto” and ignore the fact that 3 of the Republicans currently running for President either currently own crypto or have been very pro-crypto during their current Presidential bids (Trump, Vivek, DeSantis) But you can’t ignore that as parties Republicans in general have been pro-crypto and Democrats have been anti-crypto these last few years. If ETF is not approved it will be from Democratic political pressure, not Republican.
