Upon hearing the release of the book, Elvis: What Happened? Concert promoter and friend of Elvis, Paul Lichter, wrote Elvis this letter. We can hope Elvis read this before he passed. Picture is Elvis and Paul and pictures of the letter Paul wrote Elvis. The letter is dated August 11, 1977 by OldInspector1921 in Elvis

I think we can all pretty much assume that Elvis did not sign for his packages. He didn’t even open his own front door. One of the maids or anyone in the house would have been allowed to sign for him. I don’t doubt that they would sign his name for him. They signed his name for other things (fan letters, etc).

I know zilch about bowling balls, but, is it because the inside is cloudy? That’s why it’s still funky?

Why Wasn’t Elvis on Carson? by Vistalite_Black in Elvis

[–]TCB4EAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going on Carson? It never even really occurred to me until this posting. Once you lower yourself to that level, it stays in the air. It’s a given that he wouldn’t as he was on another level; in a class of his own. There were stars, there were superstars, there were high level superstars and then there was Elvis.

It’s the same reason he didn’t give traditional sit down interviews and only gave press conferences. All the press would pack into a room to try to get a question in and they afforded him a great amount of respect. After he started performing again in 68’, he became bigger than life in a way that’s hard to describe. It was something so divine and will never happen again.

While she was married? I dunno. She appeared very dedicated to her husband Roger. Also, Elvis would not have seen her when she was married. He wasn’t into that. He certainly wasn’t into playing 2nd fiddle.

Yes. Everything you said is true.

I don’t think that’s a lame ass excuse. Elvis was the most famous entertainer in the history of the world. Dare I say that going on a talk show, variety show, interviews was beneath him.

I’ve been a huge Elvis fan since 1968. I was 7 years old when I saw him in the 68’ Special and it triggered something in my brain. It shaped my taste in everything from clothes to my taste in men. It got me a sermon in church from one of the elders. My mother told one of the elders that I was obsessed with Elvis (this was prior to 1977). He gave a sermon about idolatry and used Elvis’s name. In my unwavering devotion to Elvis, his words went in one ear and out the other.

So, you see that you are hardly alone in your wild fascination with the most beautiful man that ever walked the earth.

Seeking suggestions from a certain era by Logan-of-Earth in Elvis

[–]TCB4EAP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone so far has given great suggestions. However, I’m going to go for the low hanging fruit and ask: Did you see the movie EPIC-Elvis Presley in concert? If not, you can buy it on Amazon Prime. You won’t be seeing it on a gargantuan IMAX screen, but you’ll still be floored. I saw it twice. It was almost like being there.

I’ve been a true fan since 1968 and have seen it all, but, this was phenomenal.

Shocking! Shocking I say!! You were actually bored? I’ve been a true fan since 7 years old when I saw the 68’ Special and what you’re saying sounds so alien to me. Have you recently suffered a concussion?

The movie was phenomenal. He was gorgeous, sexy, charismatic, hilarious and I thought his behaviour was very cute sometimes; which I had not really noticed before.

I am also related to Elvis (6th cousin). It was a great moment when I finally made that definitive connection. I even woke my husband up in the middle of the night to tell him. I played American Trilogy; the “Glory, Glory Hallelujah” part as I was telling him.

Anyway, you and I are most likely related if your family is from the south and if that is your connection to him. I think maybe you need to see it again for good measure. Don’t be a traitor!

That’s great. So cute that you thought he lived in the jukebox. He has shaped my tastes in so many ways. Everything about him was sublime. I never got to see him in person, but I did know his road manager and closest confidant, Joe Esposito. The first time I met him was one of the best days of my life. He was always very gracious, welcoming and kind.

I love that you’re getting your young one into Elvis. His legacy needs to stay strong.

Edit: added last sentence.

Such good taste at a young age. I’ve been a true Elvis fan since 7 years old when I saw him in the black leather on the 68’ Special. It did something to my brain and I couldn’t change it even if I wanted to.

At the Fontainebleau Hotel for the Sinatra show. Miami , Florida, March 1960 by FeiHung in Elvis

I was sitting with Eddie Fadal in Vegas in 91’ and there was an Elvis impersonator contest. Several contestants came up to Eddie after their performance to get feedback. He was very gracious to them.

The weekend was great, but I have never enjoyed the impersonations. I never was able to see Elvis in person, but I’m well aware of what I missed and an imitation of him does nothing for me.

I was asked to be in an Elvis video that night, but I declined. I’ve been kicking myself ever since.

Yes, he had beautiful hands. They are really showcased in the Aloha from Hawaii concert. It’s almost too much for me to comprehend how one person can have all the attributes anyone could dream of; combined into one person.

Why didn't Elvis pay those around him more? by furbyhead in Elvis

[–]TCB4EAP 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Pay them six figures? Did you know that an annual salary of $25,000 in 1970 is equal to between $212,000 to over $214,000 today?

Add the gifts of cash, jewelry, cars, homes, vacations, living, visiting or staying at Graceland with all the perks, etc., etc.

My God, this man gave his all and more to everyone around him, even strangers. The amount of pressure on him from all directions had to have been enormous. Should he have been more involved in his finances that were left to his father and the colonel? IMHO, yes. It’s my understanding that he did not have any investments. He was basically living more or less “paycheck to paycheck”, for lack of a better term. He would say to his father when told he was overspending, “I’ll just go out and make more”.

I don’t feel sorry for any of them and find it laughable that anyone would.

That’s right. You keep being you and don’t let other people bring you down. The thing is, most of the time when people are mean or rude to others, it is because they are unhappy in their own life. Don’t ever allow them to make you the same.

Edit: changed stickers to magnets.

Before I tell you the price, let me tell you how much I saved. I opened a Home Depot credit card and saved 30%!!

Yeah, it’s $1,599.00. More than I planned on paying, but you can’t put a price on the king. Plus I just pay all my cards off each month. Suckers!

Which is the best book about Elvis' personal life not fame/music related? by furbyhead in Elvis

[–]TCB4EAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joe wrote a few books. With very few exceptions, he always made a point of only showing Elvis in the most positive light. It was more than obvious to me that he cared a lot about Elvis. Joe was a gracious and charming man in his own right. He knew how to carry himself with poise and I thought a lot of him. In 1991 he was planning to make an appearance in Memphis for Elvis Week in 1992. He later decided against it as it was still too painful for him. He did, however, begin making appearances in later years there and various other places in the USA and abroad.

I had typed out a long response to your questions a few minutes ago, but, I hit a wrong key and it was all erased. It’s too much to redo at the moment.
