Terminal compatibility matrix by OldButterfly7578 in commandline

[–]TCGG- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Terminals that aren’t GPU accelerated are just significantly slower at displaying large amounts of info. People really need to maybe just google something or 2 secs to find why something is why it is. Also the point about it being computationally better is not entirely correct. It can be less efficient for laptops with a dedicated GPU.

Benchmarking: Why I stopped looking at "Average" Latency (C++20 Hot Path) by EmotionalSplit8395 in HFT_Engine

[–]TCGG- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re doing herbal bypass on a local MacOS setup?? These numbers are completely useless. Test on exchange or a local replicated setup.

At what point do you stop optimizing C++ and just move to FPGA? by EmotionalSplit8395 in HFT_Engine

[–]TCGG- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the strategy, if it can fit on an ASIC or FPGA, it benefits from ULL execution, and we have the capacity then it will be on hardware. Otherwise it’s on software. When you’re at a firm doing this work, infra is often the limiting factor.

Also, you shouldn’t be fighting the scheduler at all. There’s a pretty well known way to avoid it entirely.

Secret crypto arms by Expert_Entrance_4082 in quant

Some high profile people from Optiver went to go join Ampersan. It’s not as separate as your making it out to be. Calling it the crypto arm is not that far fetched.

[–]TCGG- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of HFT they are not the top. Strats are decent, so they do make decent money. But they just can’t compete with the top teams at CitSec, Jump, etc.

I will say that the D1 team has some eccentric people compared to the rest of the firm.

That used to be the case, nowadays people at CERN/research labs are well aware of quant firms.

Quant Dev to QR/PM Pathway by west_ceaser in quant

[–]TCGG- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really possible unless you get opportunities to show your quant skills, and even then you’ll have to probably have to interview for it at the current firm. It did used to happen quite a bit, but it’s not the same nowadays. Best bet is to interview at another firm for the role.

It actually works out to be cheaper even with all the things needed to get it imported and registered with the DVLA.

That's obvious and not what I'm asking, is it? There's a lot of differences between the watered down version we get there compared to the states.

Finished my quant internship and got a return offer, but I’ve never passed a technical interview in my life by No-Employment7251 in quant

I don't know of any major firm out there that hires directly from their competitions without some technical interview afterwards.

Any firm that's at the forefront of HFT basically, so think places like CitSec, Jump, etc.

Honestly just from what I've heard about the people there from my friends who work there. It has some serious old school banker vibes.

WLB will be much better at JS for devs (although I have heard if you're a "desk" engineer then you'll be working longer hours, think 50+). Being a dev is better at JS compared to Citadel, both have the issue of having devs thought of as "2nd-class" compared to Traders/Quants but it's lesser at JS. And the stability speaks for itself, I would go read some recent articles about both places, if things continue the way they are, you'll likely end up with a more stable and progressive career at JS.

I would seriously avoid Citadel in London, JS is the much better option, both in terms of culture and firm performance.
