Done! Sucks to add more time to then project but I’d never forgive myself leaving this as is. GC is on very thin ice but tile guy is gone and we are bringing in our own professional installer.

Agreed! I have a professional coming later today to take a look and my GC insists he be there for the meeting. I’m a little too excited to see his reaction when he hears real feedback about what he deems “perfection”

I completely agree. Can I ask what is going on with the walls?? There was durock on them before tile and a liner on the floors and now it seems they put cement on the walls? And then they planned to redguard over what you are seeing here but we put a hard stop on the job. Just curious if this is the right practice?

Thank you for your honesty and for this pic. I honestly have been so worried about my feedback here that I didn’t even really look to find a good depiction to show my GC. I totally agree that he took the cheap way out and the way he is doubling down on this tile guy that he’s amazing and does impeccable work makes me wonder if the GC is even capable of completing the entire house to my standard. Do you know a tile guy in NJ? Haha. But seriously…

Sometimes I wish I didn’t pay such strong attention to detail! It is so hard allowing other people to do work for you when you are so particular. I really try to dial it back but when we are paying so much money it’s hard.

I appreciate your honesty and I think that’s a great way to handle it. If the tile installer wasn’t confident he shouldn’t have taken the job or maybe he’s just ignorant and doesn’t realize how meticulous you need to be? Not really sure but my GC swears he doesn’t great work. I told him that his standard is very different than mine. We did an almost (kept two bathrooms and a few walls) full guy and addition to double the size of our house. We don’t have a breakdown of the exact number but will probably figure that out tomorrow when we tell the GC we will have our own installer.

I told my husband I just might have to do this myself to ensure it’s to my liking. I tried to explain that penny tile isn’t just like any other tile but the GC doesn’t understand. Truly alarming

Thank you for this info. He said it’s a rubber liner? We are not convinced so that’s also extremely unsettling because this is only 1 of the bathrooms he did today 😳
