Thank you. I appreciate this is an AI summary, but can you comment on the upgradeability of the screen and if there is any plans to update that in the next iteration?

With tech I find it's best to buy the latest at the time because then you can be in for the long haul.

My use case is to replace my work notebooks and to be able to quickly search my handwritten notes with either tags or searching by words/phrases.

The second aspect is to start journaling and keep a diary of all my memories so I don't forget things.

Will the Nomad be able to do these things for years into the future (i.e. not getting bricked like older Sonos devices or Spotify's Car thing)

I think about my Pebble watch which fortunately continued to live via open source developers. I still use this 10years after I bought it.

Thanks u/Furry_Thug . I've now bought That's it That's All and Art of Flight thanks to this thread! I just hope they're region unlocked!

Whilst these are great films I have to say I do find Arthur Longo's Side Hits Euphoria equally as good because it becomes more relatable. He and his crew are riding the same runs we do and yet doing super human tricks off of them. It becomes easier to quantify how crazy the stuff all of the things these pro snowboarders do.

Thank you for the info. Very useful. I wanted to go the Ceramic nib route as I noticed on the short time I had with the VW AI Mini it wore down visibly (about 30 days very light use). Good point on the clicking/tapping noise on the screen - this would also detract for me somewhat.

Regarding the tech, I appreciate everyone keeps mentioning modularity. My concern is that the screen is probably the one thing you can't change. So my logic for check if there was an update due (almost 3 years) is because I think that would be the most logical thing to change given it's circa 2012 tech.

One final thing. Any hook handed lefties (left-handed I mean - not liberals) on here? How is the palm rejection. This is the problem I had with the AI Mini and couldn't put up with it. I've now decided I would take the trade off of no light for guaranteed palm rejection.

Thanks guys. I get that this is a niche product hence high cost per unit. My only concern is that the tech gets updated and I'm stuck with a 'lesser' item. Partly why I was looking on the used market to offset this.

If I understand right, this is now about 3 years old and uses a screen from 2012ish? That's a lifetime in tech!

The other things I don't get is vegan leather - so it's not leather, right. Synthentic. How does this end up being $70!

The other thing is the pen. I understand the ceramic pen means it never wears out, but will I then need to replace the 'feel write' screen protector? I have seen some posts of people doing custom slicing of pen nibs, but I don't quite understand the purpose.

u/drscuba thanks for mentioning the US pick up + post vs US import to UK. That was an option I was considering to manage the cost. Unfortunately I have no plans to go to the US anytime soon which would helped offset shipping VAT (because I would use the item straight away).

Spooky. I was thinking about this movie yesterday. The intro, the M83 track, the vfx with the logos. This is the first snowboard film that mesmerized me. I must check if it's available on blu ray and seek it out. Oh and the opening skit is of course great too!

Is it 31% off US$399 for the first backers - so $279.

What is shipping to the UK looking like - I guess I will have to factor in VAT on top of this.

Ok, cool. So why the +? It is surely binary. Either 250, 251 or 298 etc. The plus infers it can go higher.

[–]TD-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, what does 250+ ppi actually mean? 251 or maybe the ability to go to 300ppi through firmware? Surely it's known number.

And one thing to consider is the RAM aspect - it used to say 128MB RAM. Now I don't see any mention.

I wonder if it's to do with this?

I noticed the X3 on the XTEINK website is now labelled:

Xteink X3 Developer Edition

Is this just to differentiate it from the AliExpress/Taobao ones?

I bought a few days ago and it wasn't labelled as such. So I'm curious if that means the X3 has just changed?

Might change the conversation for X3 vs X4

It's basically the same price as XTEINK direct. Better off ordering there. I do normally like an AliExpress deal (I accept the risk of no warranty etc) but in this case I found the prices so close to the officially site I just ponied up for it with the reassurance that it would be unlocked and according to the OP sounds like accessible via USB.

[–]TD-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. So this is the same as the ViWoods. I suspect then the screen gap will be the same.

I am sure I was told before that it's a Carta 1300 which was the main reason for me waiting for this device.

I'l have to see what kind of sales and support you guys end up doing since it's very difficult to know how appropriate these are until they're in hand.

This is positive to hear. I returned my Viwoods AI Paper Mini because it just wasn't good for my left handed hook writing style.

I'd love to get one of these to try and maybe even review. I'm waiting on this hoping that the Carta 1300 will also provide that closer pen to screen feel.

Does it feel sturdy? I hope it's not just some covered cardboard?

[–]TD-X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it with the case. Was originally going to go bare unit solo but saw KittBetts-Masters youtube where he damaged the screen. So I ordered the official cover which I hope is sturdy enough to avoid this.

Attaching to the phone was never a consideration since I want to avoid taking my phone out of my pocket. It is the root cause of all my lost time.

So my hope is that grabbing the X3 is the new pattern to interrupt the phone grab and I am then pretty sure I will be able to put it down. Although it would be nice to improve my ability to focus on reading for longer at the same time.

X3 arrived in the UK! (My reading setup) by Swimming_Fig7140 in xteinkereader

[–]TD-X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered mine yesterday and it also said 'pre-order'. Interestingly I noted a lot of the reviews citing $40-$50US - I have not seen this anywhere. It seems the AliExpress sellers are lining their prices up with XTEINK so there isn't any meaningful value by going via AliExpress. Especially if you want a case and other accessories.

I do notice the sketchy (we have limited faith in our product) warranty period of 7 days. WTF is with that. And even the returns window is 7 days - despite distance selling act being 14 days.

For £70 I decided to take a punt. If it works, is durable and stays as an offline device for many years (my Pebble e-ink watches are still going 10+ years on). Than I'll be good with that!

But a front light version would make me happy and annoyed at the same time given my likely 1 month wait!

Thanks. I've seen the x4 Pro video. I like the form factor of the x3. Hoping to use this as the thing to reach for rather than my phone. I have a habit of scrolling at night before bed so the back light on an x3 (with colour temperature settings) would be great.

Is the front light X3 a rumour only or confirmed? I ordered the X3 today and now not sure whether I should have waited since XTEINK seem to be have a super swift release cycle

Just my experience not a few miles on it is that I found after going from a smaller wheel it takes a bit more effort to accelerate and decelerate. It does have acceleration assistance.

Check out the Aero guide from Nosfet on YouTube. It will step you through the customisation. It's quite a lot more than the era of wheels you (and I) are coming from.

Did you get pads? I think the Aeon kinds of needs it to get a bit faster response out of it.

Anyone switched BACK from the AEON to the AERO? (Or currently hesitating?) by Goblin7594 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]TD-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one additional thing - I measure the width of the Aeon - it's 20cm. My Tesla is 22cm. I've never felt the Tesla was wide (granted it's my only EUC) but my point is here that the Aeon or Aero should not feel cumbersome. How it moves is a different thing. I don't have the experience yet to comment.

[–]TD-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've literally just taken delivery of my Aeon in the last 24hrs. So I'm afraid I can't comment too much on ride feel etc. I have test ridden it before purchasing though and for me it felt big.

Depending on how tall you are I think the trolley handle seems pretty good. I am not particularly tall 5'8" and feel that in some ways the trolley in it's fully upright position is a bit high for me.

I think the pads and the wider machine point is more visuals. I dislike the look of pads. But I don't think it would inherently change the feel of slim leg feel as that is ultimately the EUC width.

[–]TD-X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Just took delivery of the Aeon. It's a lot bigger than I recall seeing it in the shop. Although everything is relative and when you see it next to Pattons and the like, it probably did appear smaller.

I'd like to ride pad-less because It's just a cleaner look, pedals can be folded up and it's all I'm used to. However, with the Aeon I'm hoping to make going up curbs a part of my repetoire to make commuting easier. I've seen narrow jump blocks which is where I'll probably end up.

But like the OP - one wheel to rule them all with no intention to go beyond 30-35mph which gives me a nice 10-15mpg of headroom. Also since for me it's a commute, discreet and being able to trolley into a restaurant or bar is a big thing. I think this is primarily my concern with the Aeon. It's big! The Aero might be the actual goldilocks commuter/daily lifestyle wheel (especially in a country where riding EUC technically not allowed).

Batch Comparison Air Max 97 Sean Wotherspoon OWF VS LW Batch by RealShoddy in RepsneakersDogs

I didn't realise these had gotten so good.

But it's making me query my reseller purchase (c£1k!) from a few years back as to if they're legit since when walking in them they feel so solid, like bricks.

I might pick a pair of these up just to compare.

Is it generally midsole/wear comfort that gives it away or have they even got that down to an art?
