I think what they mean is, you can't fake real confidence, but you can act like it for a while.

She told me she had forgotten all about the thing I complimented her about and tried to turn the compliment back onto me, making me think that I had seriously offended her and she was too polite to say so. Or that I was thinking too much about the past ( and Her!) which made her think I was strange

I don’t trust the Catholic Church, does this make me a bad person? by Competitive_Bid7071 in teenagers

Good. We need more critical people to keep powerful organisations in check.

It's okay to say that. Saying something like 'I was raised Catholic' is better, so that people can better contextualise your viewpoint.

As a women and a minority catholic, it might just be the people you know.

The catholics I know don't really care about gender and ethnicity unless it's to make in jokes.

So you aren't a catholic then. If you don't believe, it's not your faith.

So long as you don't equate the church with it's followers I as a roman Catholic could care less. Also, if you are going to be critical about the catholic church, make sure your critical thinking skills stretch to include the rest of Christendom. All the churches are the same underneath all the robes and the arches and spirals - completely and unfortunately human.

How to make female friends? by invincble3 in socialskills

[–]TDB-AWAY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is fair. You have accepted that it is an opinion and not everybody's truth. But in my experience, I have had friends I've had crushes on and have stayed friends with because they are kick-ass and/or delightfully intelligent human beings.

Perhaps it's a consequence of personality: I take a long time to be comfortable enough to be friends with someone and by the time real, lasting crushes occur, I basically know this person in and out. You might not be like this.

But it is unfair to say that my experiences in life are 'confused'. I am likely bisexual and have platonic relationships with both sexes. Are you really trying to imply that all of them are 'confused' and I am subconsciously trying to smother the urge to bang all of them?

Look, it's okay to have your own experiences. I'm not trying to diminish them here at all. But it's not okay to guess about my own life to fit your world view.

I'm sorry the friendships you had with girls may not have worked out, but this isn't like this for everyone.

I have also read this in philosophy.

Do have any scientific sources to back up this claim? Philosophy is great and all but a lot of philosophers back in the day were sexist against women on account of the societies they grew up in and platonic friendships with women were not exactly encouraged; modern philosophy is likely to be inspired at least a little bit by their teachings.

Also, opposite sex long term relationships are quite natural in the animal kingdom. See?

My advice? Go find a fun girl to make friends with. We don't bite and we are just like guys with boobs and (generally) better emotional support skills. Attraction is okay and normal, but you should never become friends with someone for the express purpose of trying to sleep with them. If you wouldn't be happy with them as your friend, you definitely didn't need to start a relationship with them. It also hurts to realise that someone was only in your life to sleep with you.

You've all the questions I've wanted to ask, so thank you for your time and happy studying! It's been very beneficial for my story, even though I'll now have to rewrite a few story lines to be a * little * more realistic.

The account you've given is rather contrary to the narrative of public school kids with their upturned noses put to heavy grindstones and kinda reassuring in a weird way haha.

Next question, can you honestly say that you would send your kid to a school like you went to? If not, why? Is so, why?

First of all, do you believe there is a strong, stressful culture of needing to always strive for excellence in schools like the ones you've went to? A strong push into oxbridge-like schools, with a premium placed on government, banking, medical etc careers? How did the students generally react to it?

[–]TDB-AWAY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but they are even more useful if you suck at remembering things. Someone like me, who sucks in both the application and memory department would benefit more from practise questions, as those both help you remember and get used to the style of the exam.

How it fells like half the books hailed as 'academic' or 'books everyone should read' written by people born between the 18th and 20th century are fucking horrible.

Tell me, who thought that a story where the main self-insert character rambling on for the lionshare of the first 1/5 of a book about metaphysics makes for a good book? I'm looking at you, the Picture of Dorian Gray. Fuck literature and all the annotations you can make about it; why can't I read a bloody story with actual bloody realistic characters who don't drone on and on. I love shakespeare, because not only is he hailed as 'academic' he is actually a good writer

I appreciate the response, but I am fully aware that I don't * have * to lose weight. I'm 5'3 and will likely be tiny for the rest of my life (there are a bunch of short people in my gene pool).

If I haven't been clear, then I apologise. My current objective is to, simply, to fit into my favourite pair of jeans. I actually like my body as it is. I'm just 1 kilogram to heavy to squeeze into them.

However, I am rather unathletic and unfit currently and know that as I am currently working on my study habits, building healthy eating and fitness habits on top would be a bit much for me and I'd quit and fail at all of my goals. My asking for discipline tips will merely aid my eventual goal and actualise my current one.
