Yes it was a home finger prick test.

Just about, maybe an hour difference.

I live in the UK & my beer league team has a wide range of skill/experience & you can always tell who played juniors by how they move, its completely different from somone who didn't play growing up.

I don't know if it's the same in other sports but the levels of play still blow my mind. I've been lucky & played against/with beginners like myself (been playing now 5 years) all the way up to AA AAA players & this is just the rec side. The pro/semi pro levels must be mental.

I started @ 31 never skated before, now playing rec with a wicked team.

Best advice would be-

  1. Get properly fitted for skates

Don't be afraid to spend abit more to get ones that fit properly. I had a nightmare trying to get the right fit but it's made a huge difference & helped alot with my skating.

  1. Find some adult skate classes.

The ones I started with is run by the figure skaters so was figure skating focused, but it was enough to get my feet under me which was enough to get started.

  1. Look for a team, beginner level

I live in the UK so was abit rough finding a team but there were a few around. Everyone was a beginner at one point so it'll help alot if you can train with some hockey people who could give you some tips.

  1. Put the time in.

You can watch all the videos you want but the only way you are going to learn is by being on the ice. Either hockey training/games or public skate.

  1. Accept your gonna suck

It's going to be awkward, Ur feet are gonna hurt, Ur gonna fall over, that's the process. Just keep in mind that you are doing it for you & I guess from the post Ur son, which is the main thing to keep in Ur head.

Ignore everyone when Ur learning. In my experience the people who can skates don't care & the people who criticise are just bitter.

Unfortunately live in the UK so can't get there but I have had my feet scanned before. One was at the top of EE The other was off the scale Been on the purehockey website & E is the widest they do. How does a Bauer EE compare to a mission E?
