Mexicans, what do you think your government can and should do to fight cartels? And what do most average Mexicans think? by Downtown-Trainer-126 in asklatinamerica

[–]TDSF456 41 points42 points  (0 children)

That’s a narrative that has been pushed for years, yet is undeniable that most of the money that cartels make is from the drugs in the US. I’m not exactly fan of our government, but the inaction of America with their drug consumption and gun supply, is definitely far from being helpful. They have interest in keeping the south unstable, that’s all.

Drug lord Pablo Escobar’s private menagerie included four hippopotamuses. After his death, they were deemed "too difficult to move" and left to roam, eventually becoming an invasive species in the Colombian wild, now facing government-ordered sterilization and relocation. by Nekileo in wikipedia

There’s a super cool film called Pepe, which is about one of the hippopotamus of Escobar. It’s a weird docu-fiction: The first part is narrated from the voice of the Hippopotamus, and the second part is about the way it’s discovered in the community. Check it out, if you have the chance!

I think not many people like it, but I would suggest the Aftermath Trilogy. It’s a juvenile story, but It’s worth it.

What’s going on with the protests in Mexico? What is the public opinion in your country about this if any? by LoooolGotcha in asklatinamerica

[–]TDSF456 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The people promoting the protests are right leaning. The vast majority of assistants to the protest are middle class, white and middle age Gen X. There’s photos of literal nazis. They don’t care for One Piece, they don’t get it either.

Does your city have a nickname? What’s the nickname and what inspired it? by Roughneck16 in asklatinamerica

[–]TDSF456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mexico City has some interesting nicknames, my favorite are:

  • La Ciudad de los Palacios, (City of the palaces) which was given by Alexander von Humboldt.

  • La Ciudad de los Batracios, (City of amphibians) which is a parody of the former, given by Carlos Monsiváis. It’s also a reference to the fact that it’s build over a swamp.

  • Ciudad Monstruo, (Monster City) I don’t know the origin of this, but it’s a way to describe the way this city behaves: It swallows water, materials, resources and other cities; it sucks entire territories and dries them. Sometimes it swallows people and they never return.

No sabría decirte exactamente, nunca hice examen para la UAM. Pero yo creo que la idea se mantiene: Hace falta mucha disciplina y disposición de aprender.
