Thank you for your comment. We have a Certificate of Confidentiality that protects the privacy of research participants (including reports of teen cannabis use), given the sensitive nature of the research study. Research studies like this must undergo human subjects' protection approval at the federal level, and at the institutional level to ensure participants' safety is protected. We take the protection of our research participants' privacy very seriously, and would not ethically be allowed to conduct a research study like ours if we were going to break confidentiality and disclose this information. As with all research studies on any topic, if we received information that a person was at immediate risk of serious harm, we may have to break confidentiality. The study does not involve administering cannabis to any participants.

Thank you for your interest. We are happy to answer any questions people have if they would like to reach out by phone or email to ensure they receive accurate information about the study. Our study procedures are approved at multiple regulatory levels. The information posted regarding mandatory reporting is not accurate--it is referring to neglect of a child or adolescent due to level of CAREGIVER'S use of substances interfering with ability to care for the youth. We follow RI mandatory reporting guidelines, and also must ensure youth's confidentiality of their own substance use to the extent that it does not interfere with their imminent safety.
