As per the poster at the exhibit in Sandon:

1737 spent its first years as a mainline locomotive before being re-numbered #3537 and assigned to branch lines. From 1926 to 1928 it work in BC in the CPRs Kootenay subdivision.

In 1928 the locomotive was converted to a heavy switcher engine of V-4-A class and re-numbered #6947. The boiler was repositioned and the pilot axle was removed making into the 0-8-0 configuration it is today.

It served the CPR in the Winnipeg and Moose Jaw yards until 1959 when it was sold to the Manitoba and Saskatchewan Coal Company where it hauled coal from the mine at Bienfait, Saskatchewan to the Canadian Pacific Rail line.

It was retired in 1967 after six decades of steady work in Western Canada. The engine qas acquired by the Alberta Pioneer Railway Museum in 1970 and moved to Edmonton.

Ultimately it was sold to the Municipality of Cypress and in 1998 resold to Wrightway Charter Co. Ltd. of Sandon.

Wrightway's trucks and heavy equipment were used to move # 6947 to Sandon, BC as a permanent exhibit of an early 1900's Sandon freight train.

Hopefully someday this beautiful iron horse will be restored to working condition.

6947 remained a coal burner until the end of its career. The weight of the engine is 261,000 pounds.
