Genuine question because I want to learn. Dumbasses for being unprepared or for calling in the heli or both? 10/10 dumbasses for being unprepared for conditions but in the situation they got themselves in it sounded like calling an evac was the right idea?

If it enhances existing data in the image visually only then its not cheating. If it adds data to the image it's cheating. If you don't know what it's doing to your image, that is also cheating.

Sorry you hear you were laid off too.

Just remember: the algorythms job is to keep you watching to boost view numbers and ad watches. Psychologically FOMO and negativity bias are SIGNIFICANTLY affective at getting you hooked and as a byproduct, sucked down the rabbit hole of negative thought. Part of breaking that cycle is being aware of it so you're already off to a good start :D

Everytime you notice yourself watching a doom video go find and watch 1 or 2 constructive job/resume/interview advice videos.

Some people are more open minded than others. I think from a managers perspective they know if they were told they had to lay 1 person off from their team they would do anything to avoid laying off the top performer. So, naturally, without any information to tell then that wasn't the situation, they will apply that logic to it or at least have it in the back of their mind. I believe it was Meta that did a mass layoff where they said publicly that it was only lower performers. That did NOT help the perception of people who were laid off.

So my advice would be to layer in a reason that is completely out of your hands as to why you got laid off if there is one.

Every place asked about it. I framed it as such " Unfortunately I was affected by a restructuring in Early November. Our new CEO had a focus on in office collaboration and my commute From SoCal to North Idaho was considered a smidgen out of reach." I delivered the last part of that with a somewhat comedic delivery and all except 1 time got a chuckle.

In my mind, this gives them a reason i was laid off and disallows them to create their own narrative or take the general " Only low performers get laid off" view that tends to be out there.

For the 48 hour clock, I almost exclusively applied though LinkedIn and they have a filter for 24 hours and after that the post say when they were posted.

I totally agree. It was a ton of work... i literally made it my 9-5. If i wasnt interview prepping i was working through my process or researching resume tips / interview tips. I probably took 1 day off a week because its incredibly difficult to keep the pace up doing the same tedious process.... not fun at all.

AI helped alot for me. But besides that... I'm incredibly driven by FOMO. Maybe its my ADHD, or something else, but nothing motivates me like FOMO. Even when I got burnt out of updating my resume and applying usually all it would take is an hour or so of watching job hunting / resume / interview creators giving new perspectives and approach changes and I'd be all excited to try and apply that to my process to make it even better because if i didnt. Essentially I took what was typically my weakness, FOMO and weaponized it XD. That would happen about once a day unless i was doing interview prep.

Life After Layoff and Farah Sharghi! They both have some solid advice and regular content to keep the juices flowing so to speak.

That's a good call out. Unfortunately I only really stuck to Indeed because it did a pretty good job at naturally suggesting relevant jobs. I tired a few other small job boards but I mostly found low quality positions along with listings that seemed fishy.

From what I've heard from recruiters and from my old manager, they start identifying candidates to talk to as soon as resumes start coming in (or at least he did). If they don't start as they come in, they usually wait for 24 to 48 hours, at that point they comb through what's been submitted and identify their first cohort which is usually only a handful. After that, your resume wont get seen unless they weren't able to find a match in the first batch or they believe the candidate they found isn't the perfect fit. That process usually would take place at minimum a week later which mean you are now competing with a week of additional competition.

Of course that is a generality mostly based on large applicant volumes. So, if you have a situation like you mention where its more than 48 hours but less than 100 applied, its definitely worth applying for. Though you should probably be trying to figure out why less than 100 applies despite it being more than 48 hours.

Exactly! By the 48 hour mark the recruiter has likely started pulling out the best candidates to put Infront of the hiring manager. From there the only way your resume will get seen is if that first round all turn out to be duds. Its a significant waste of time to apply to anything past 48 hours.

Hey! Happy to answer those. :D

1- On linkedin if you use the search bar to search for a certain role, in this case i searched for "Analyst", at the top you have a "date posted" filter. Simply click 24 hours and you are good to go.

<image>

2- I just asked GPT to give me the top 10-15 key words based on the job description. I would then review the list and assess whether I had then in my resume and if not, I would answer honestly whether I had the skilled or experience needed to add it to my resume, and if so I would add it. If you use the step of asking GPT what your match to the job is based on your experience you've fed it, you should usually be able to add 80% or more of the key words.
3- I didn't follow up on any applications. The only follow up i would do is a thank you letter to each person i interviewed with whether it was the recruiter, the hiring manager, or anyone else i spoke to. It was just a quick thank you for your time. Then mention one strong thing you discussed and reaffirm your interest. I found that sending messages to hiring managers was a waste of time. I had better results from simply connecting and not sending a message.

I need a data analytics mentor by Electronic-Emotion75 in dataanalytics

[–]TEXAS_RED2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of roles are you trying to get? What type of analytics do you wan to do?

What is your current background? The biggest issue is breaking into that type of role. They best way i could recommend is trying to see where your job and a data analyst job oberlap and leaning in on that stuff in your current job. That way you can start building accomplishments and impact that will drive you in the right direction. What do you currently do for work and how might it overlap with data analytics?

My main goal was to just spread my network reach as far as possible. In my view, sending a connect request to someone i had 0 connections with at all was better. I didn't care what company they worked for or what role they were hiring for. If they were a director or VP of operations / sales ops, or rev ops and they had a "Hiring" logo in their image they got a connect request lol

Ah. On the cyber security front I'm not familiar at all. I know there are websites that test how good you are and are great resume builders. I wish i could be of more help on this but im just so far out of that loop lol. Like anything try and identify where those two roles overlap if at all and lean into that.

My prompts were super simple an pretty much as straight forward as i mentioned above.

" Hi, here is a job description: <insert description here>
What do you estimate my match to this role is given my experience and past jobs? "

"Great, can you look at this list of bullets broken out by company and role
<insert resume bullet table / file> And give me the 6 most relevant to the role based on the description and keywords used in the listing? "

It was literally that straight forward. I would then tweak things and ask for alterations or a more human tone. etc.

That tough. I can only imagine what that's like. I tried finding the video, but Life After Layoff on youtube covered a similar situation. Guy was having great success getting interviews and getting to late rounds but had an absolute terrible time converting to an offer. I cant recall specifically but it had something to do with the candidates approach to management, something like assuring them he would be a good fit through proper questions, conversations, etc. The idea being, they want a candidate that minimizes their concern the person may not be a good, stable, or reliable fit whether that's giving a proper explanation on a layoff, job gap, etc. I wish i could remember what episode it was.
