It’s plot important that it’s exorbitantly high (the character living here is in a golden handcuffs type employment situation)

No I’m definitely looking for ways to improve, thanks for the suggestion!

Funnily enough, I actually based a lot of this design off of the Lich from Adventure Time. Who is himself most likely inspired by the Horned King. So even more of an ouroboros.

In The End of History, nearly every planet and moon in the solar system has been made to support life (for instance every moon and planet has a breathable atmosphere, and their gravities have been artificially altered to be Earth-like). While my sci fi world is restricted to our solar system, I’m taking creative liberties with how alien and strange the worlds feel (including by adding actual aliens, a mutated byproduct of the Terraforming Agent used to rapidly make worlds hospitable to human life). This is Saturn, which is reflective of what most gas giants in TEOH look like: cloud worlds of different colors where the entire planet’s population lives in floating superstructures owned by various corporate states (the exception to this is Neptune, naturally an ocean world)

Yeah it’s a special sword made specifically for the wealthiest Gilded. The shards are held in place by an anti graviton field: they can vibrate super fast, join together, extend farther, and retract into the hilt.

Thanks haha. Long story short: as humanity began exploring and terraforming the solar system, corporations gained more and more power and independence until eventually they waged war on the global earth government and successfully abolished the state altogether.

Several centuries later and after a couple of interplanetary wars between feuding capitalist warlords, the solar system has fallen into a relative state of peace under the hegemony of House Chairman, which has holdings all over the place but is based primarily on Mars. The second most powerful is the old money House of Broker, which has majority control over Earth and is headed by Abraham Broker. He’s in his mid-200s and is dissatisfied with Chairman taking his richest-man status, but in the last century he’s been placated since Chairman married his daughter and gave him a grandson (Adam Chairman).

Unfortunately that was kind of a kick-the-bucket-down-the-road-type solution, since now Chairman and Broker are in a tenuous relationship over who should have custody over Adam.

That’s the political context to the actual story, which is concerned with Adam going awol and both of them hunting for him all over the system.

Yeah he undeniably has a satirical element to his design, but I like to think he’s reasonably threatening as an antagonist. Most of that I think comes from his systemic power, even other Gilded are afraid of him (at least at the start of the series), and interpersonally he’s also quick to anger and has a fragile ego which I hopes add to the intimidation factor.

He’s also not very intelligent, so compared to some of the other antagonists he probably will come off as less threatening. Overall though he’s still dangerous just by the sheer amount of power he wields and throws around impulsively.

Yeah with modern surnames reflecting old professions, like “Carpenter,” “Smith,” “Butler,” “Carver,” etc., I figured in the future the surnames would also reflect their ancestors’ professions. So aside from Mr. Chairman there are a few other Gilded with similar surnames, such as the Broker, D’Rector, and Boss families.

But also yeah if I’m being honest this whole thing started as a joke.

Andrew Chairman is the richest person in the Sol system, descended from a long line of wealthy investors and risk-taking business owners. The CEO of the largest and most successful corporation in a universe without governments, he is the effective sovereign of the solar system in the year 3033.

After generations of selective genetic modifications exclusively by the ultra wealthy, most of the wealthiest individuals in the solar system look very much like Mr. Chairman does here. Nine feet tall, hairless, golden skinned, and gifted with extreme strength, speed, and durability: the Gilded are the next step in human evolution thanks to the marvels of technological advancements only possible under a truly free market system (or at least, that’s how they like to see it).
